Let The Right One In (2008) watch along

Well, well, well. Gentle spoilers below!🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

Going into this one I had no idea what it was about. I don't want to spoil it for people who haven't seen this. I was so pleasantly surprised by this story! I was not expecting it to be what it was. So for me, that was a bonus. I think this is a fantastic art film, with a fascinating coming-of-age story which was so outta left field for me, yet so up my alley.

If this is your first viewing or if you have seen it already I can't wait to hear your thoughts and your reactions to the film.

Thank you so much for all your support here on Patreon! Love your GUTS!

Enjoy the film!

Great film, great reaction. Love all your takes but one you missed (and it's easy to miss) is Eli didn't mean she was a vampire when she said she wasn't a girl. She was a boy who was violently castrated when 'turned'. Just a little bonus horror factoid for everyone. Cheers.

It’s good!!!

I will watch this reaction, maybe late tonight. A first watch of the movie for me. I voted for it because I read it was good. Did well on RT = 98% (audience 90%). I will see what I think about it.

I believe there was an extended version that had a flashback scene that gave more detail on Eli's story. The American remake, Let me in, was good too, it is rather close to the original version. The book was good too. Based strickly off of this version of the movie, it is interesting to speculate on if Eli loved him or was she just grooming her next "dad".

Totally, great thoughts re subtext

Ya those thoughts have stayed with me after watching re Eli and Oskar! This movie was such a pleasant surprise so glad you watched with!

I am so glad you put this one on multiple polls as a means of increasing its odds. Such a wonderful film. Certainly not a horror film in the traditional sense, but if all I want is to be scared this season I'll just open up my voter's pamphlet. Lina Leandersson (Eli) and Kare Hedebrant (Oskar) give truly touching performances. The film looks great of course, and I really love the score. I'm assuming that Hakan isn't Eli's father and that Oskar will be taking over his role. So I'm left to ponder whether Eli's relationship with Hakan might have started in a similar fashion as her relationship with Oskar. And since we have no idea how old Eli is, how many Hakan/Oscar figures have there been in her life? As you pointed out, this film gave you plenty of space for commentary and you didn't disappoint. I must say, someone set your face to stunned for the full frontal scene.

Loved the Watchalong. Scandinavian films have a cold starkness to their cinematography that really works for them. I blame The Seventh Seal lol, damn cold Bergman. But my theory is that a countries artistic aesthetic usually mimics their weather lol. There’s quite a bit of subtext in this movie in regards to sexuality and maturation, but on the surface it’s a gorgeous film, sweet, tender, and gruesome.

So rad Shawn!

For anyone who was here for my Chinatown story, where I met Robert Towne, this film was released the year that happened, and I was able to see it for the first time at that same film festival. It was completely unknown. The people who elected to get tickets for that showing were there solely based on the brief description in the festival catalog. I remember the excitement in the room at the beginning, because there weren't a lot of films being shown that would even come close to this "genre." It was one of those experiences where the end credits rolled, and no one moved from their seats. One of the most memorable weekends I've had in a theatre.

Ya this movie was special!

Glad you reviewed the original foreign version and not the American remake. Although I thought the remake was good it doesn't top the original. 👍
