I'm sure pretty much all the obvious ones have been covered above, but I'll go ahead and throw this one into the mix 'cos I think it's an under-seen gem: OUTLAND (1981)

Calum Grace

Tom Rufer

I definitely hope she makes it there. She’s doing the ST films in order and just did ST 4, but she had prepped by watching a curated number of TOS episodes. I’d be happy to help curate some Next Generation episodes so she could continue her journey.

I agree that the original Blob is required viewing (always watch the original first!), but the 80's version is the superior film. Not only are the effects better, but more importantly, anyone can die at any time! But of course this is one of those sci-fi/horror films. How does one draw the line?

Kinokind

Star Trek First Contact 1996

Monte Durbin

Gattaca (1997) tops my list; it seems somewhat forgotten, yet is a great film that portrays a dystopia that I fear we are headed for, so I think it is ripe for discussion. A few old time flicks that come to mind: The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951) and Forbidden Planet (1956).

Strangelove50

• The Island (2005) • Contact (1997) • Gattica (1997) • Looper (2012) • Starman (1984) • Oblivion (2013) • Prometheus (2012) • Stargate (1994) • Close Encounters (1977) • Frequency (2000) • Edge of Tomorrow (2014)

John Courtright

Which is better, theatrical or director's cut? I haven't seen the DC
