STAR TREK IV : The Voyage Home

Hey Trekkers!

What a fun adventure!!! This really is a movie for everybody! I enjoyed it so so much and hope this Star Trek movie run I am on can go 6/6!!!!

 SPOILERS BELOW!

***************************************

Captain Kirk and his crew trying to blend in with the locals, navigating traffic and yes, Spock tries to learn how to swear! I couldn't even!! and saving some ****** was so weird but also beautiful and worked with this movie! The humor, environmental message, and time-travel shenanigans makes it a standout in the Star Trek series for sure! Karate Spock just killed me! Everyone was sooo good in this! And they MUST of had a blast! Again so in love with William Shatner! hahaha!

Let me know your thoughts on this one down below!!!

Live long and prosper my friends! 🚀🌟

What a fun movie! Dr. Nichols (Alex Hentelof) at the manufacturing plant that helped Scottie was an ambulance chasing lawyer on the TV series Barney Miller. That old lady was funny when that old lady said, "He cured my kidneys!" If you watch any of the ST TV series TNG, DS9, etc., you'll see that black Admiral at HQ again somewhere. ;)

This is my favorite star trek movie- it's so good and one of the few mainstream movies with a good environmental plot

AHH You missed one of my favorite one liners from Spock. Hopefully you'll catch it in editing so I won't spoil it. I always forget how much fun this movie is. I remember there was a lot of talk at the time about blue whales and their potential extinction. There were complaints that this movie was too "preachy" about that stuff. But Star Trek has always been socially conscious. I won't use the term "woke" because that particular use of the word wasn't around then. Honestly, I think it's pretty mild here. They did such a great job of balancing the humor and the heart. I remember as a kid going to school and playing with friends quoting Spock's "colorful metaphors." and "nuclear wessels." LOL Don't let the comments about number V keep you from enjoying it. I agree with most of the criticism, but it is still a good watch. I like going into it with the perspective that it's like an episode and not so much an epic big budget film.

The key that makes this all work is that even though there are tons of laughs, the performers play everything 100% straight. There are lots of great performances, but to me the MVP is Catherine Hicks as Dr. Gillian Taylor. Originally, there was talk of Eddie Murphy starring as an astrophysicist who comes into contact with the Enterprise crew. That would have been a huge mistake and would have turned ST IV into an over-the-top farce. OTOH, Gillian brings the fiery, but believable, conviction that gets us invested in the rescue of the two whales George & Gracie (as opposed to two random whales in the ocean). Her concern for the whales and hostility to whaling serve as the glue that holds this wacky story together, and her scenes in the pickup truck ("You guys like Italian?" 🤣) and the restaurant absolutely sparkle, giving this story the grounding it needs.

This isn't just my favorite Star Trek film, it's one of my all-time favorite movies. Great reaction to a killer screenplay brought to life by totally committed performances and great direction by Leonard Nimoy! This movie could have crashed and burned in so many ways. It's like the Spruce Goose at the end of The Aviator -- there's no way in hell that thing's gonna fly! But it doesn't just stay airborne for a few minutes, it actually makes a miraculous flight to Paris! (SPOILERS AHEAD!)

The underwater whales were animatronic and they were so convincing that Peta, or a similar organization, paid a visit to the set or Paramount offices to make sure that the whales were not mistreated and then were told that there were no real whales involved lol. Putting aside the Even Odd Good Bad concept Star Trek 5 is universally regarded as the weakest, and by many bad. While I feel it is the weakest I don't feel it's bad as there are still great character moments and a great premise that wasn't handled well. Two big problems was that ILM was not available for the visual effects and who they got was bad and the studio cut back on the finale making the ending much less than was the original intent.

Re-watching this was so much fun! ‘’Take me to your nuclear wessels!’’ Thx Ames 😀

Amalia Wolf

so many good lines in this one!!! i loved the working in space line!

Amalia Wolf

This was my "go to" for when I stayed home sick. Anybody else have that Star Trek movies VHS box set that ranged from the motion picture to IV The Undiscovered Country?

Biscuits_N_Gravy

A great reaction, Ames!! Good cheesy fun, and reminiscent of the original series for sure!! This one has some of the best one-liners!! McCoy in particular kills me. "I don’t know if you’ve got the whole picture, but he’s not exactly working on all thrusters" and "You really have gone where no man's gone before!" 😂😂😂

John Courtright

CHOCOLATE IS LEAST FAVE! Hahahahah I love your analogy! I still love 2 the best so far! And I love 1! But this one was SO FUN! I will rank after I’m done watching everything :)

Amalia Wolf

I'm a weird one in that this one is my 2nd least favorite in the franchise, when most people put it near the top. But it's one of my least favorite in the kind of way that chocolate is my least favorite flavor of ice cream. It's still ice cream and I love ice cream.

Aaron Chandler

OOOOOO!!! Cool! I love movies like this SO FUN!!! 🖖🏽

Amalia Wolf

Thanks for watching Chris!

Great Reaction

A perfect summer watch. So happy that something I fell in love with as a child continues to live long and prosper. I do kind of wish they had made this their swan song. I recommend watching the Futurama episode titled Where No Fan Has Gone Before. Another stellar reaction. Thanks.

James Rogers

YEA that’s the one. Don’t recco seeing that as a matinee then crying ur face off and waking into mid day busy streets of Vancouver after lol oh I didn’t walk out I mean AFTER when I walked out crying

Amalia Wolf

Just finished the watch, glad you liked it. It’s such a great idea, it’s perfectly Star Trek cheesy and fun. I’m glad it came out when it did. If it came out now it would be called ‘woke’, in the current obnoxious, lazy, righteously indignant way that word is being used.

Catchermag

The dolphin doc is called The Cove, and it is a very difficult watch. You’re wise to have walked out, it never got more pleasant.

Catchermag

Hope u had a great month Toc!

Amalia Wolf

😂😂😂😂

Amalia Wolf

"My friends, we've come home."

David Crabtree

Haven't seen it since it came out, but I remember my buddy (who wasn't into Star Trek) and I both had a good time! Looking forward to checking this out! Getting ready to go home, this will be perfect to check out once I finish packing!

Toc

😝

Amalia Wolf

I can't wait to watch this one after work, Ames!! This is such a fun one and I knew you would get a kick out of it!! 😂😂😂

John Courtright
