Interviewer: "So, how did you stop the war?" League Historian: "Um...well...we cause a massive galactic economic recession that bankrupted the people trying to build all the weapons? We might, maybe, possibly have caused more people to starve to death than would have died in the fighting though..."

2026-02-23 20:17:19 +0000 UTCAs far as we know the clones are getting some upgrades too, i think the Kaminoas wanted to get started on cloning from a few different donors? But I agree, getting the Jedi as Generals will be far more difficult, not only because there alredy exists a framework, but also because many of them have already been bloodied in the Hutt Crusade. They know of their capabilities and shortcomings, and even the ones who didn't join will still profit from their experience. Adding to that, the Jedi Temples own fleet would be a far more reasonable place for Jedi to be stationed, and even there they will rely on already established officers. Another point against Palpatine, that even if he should win the war, cleansing an entire officer corp of Republic Symphatisants would be impossible. The clones could be phased out because they were indoctrinated to follow orders, an established officer corp with chains of command will be far harder to displace/replace.

2026-02-23 16:17:30 +0000 UTCRegarding Izuku's closing thoughts re. budgets, he still has to worry about them, it's just that his worries aren't about shortfall, but instead about the economic impacts of spending, as noted before. On the plus side, it gives the League yet another lever of power to use in galactic relations, both diplomatically through trade and stimulus, and militarily in potentially being able to crash a local economy or outbid opponents if necessary.

2026-02-23 05:51:31 +0000 UTCAs always, I'm enjoying the worldbuilding and development leading up to the Clone Wars, although by now I'm quite curious how the clones will be introduced to the galaxy and what the inciting incident will be. Also, it's lovely to see the Hutt kajidics get what they so richly deserve.

The part I liked the most was actually Padme pivoting to not really opposing the military creation act but working to make it a bill less easily exploited. If there are officer corps in training and provisions on how to pay the troops then both setting up the clones as the obvious solution as well as more importantly getting the Jedi as generals will be much harder. Wonder what contingencies Palpatine will have here. In canon it was pretty much all exactly to plan for him. So how does he (possibly fail to) deal with variables

It really was supposed to happen in 23 BBY, so I decided to hijack it via Butterfly Effect. Both as something for Aayla to do, and because those power gems were a tempting solution to the Throne Worlds...
