With that reminder out of the way...time for this story to finally get a fresh infusion of content! It's been since, dear goodness, last June! Even then it was only a small update, sheesh! Well, better late than not at all, and this update is a solid 14,500 words. It also just about finishes up Harry's First year.
Yes, that's fast.
Under 45,000 words to get through Pre-Hogwarts and his first year, in fact.
Frankly, I always intended for the first 2-3 years of Hogwarts to go by relatively quickly. I'm not skipping them as they are important to establishing this very different Harry's motivations, goals, and build up phase. As in, showing him actually working up to the skills he has, rather than just giving them to him in Mary Sue OP protagonist fashion. As I hope most of you have realized by now, I try to show at least somewhat realistic power curves and development for characters. Since the really exciting stuff (to me) will happen in the later years though, I always intended to move through the first few years more swiftly.
That said, I think this particular release is a very nice mix of building up the basic pieces farther...and showing just how little respect I have for canon in this story. Ending with a solid bit of Harry getting to be a badass as that point is driven home ;-).

*Edit: You aren't crazy if you thought the chapter numbering was 14-18. I accidentally misnumbered the chapters (skipping chapter 13 unintentionally). Fixed versions are up now.

Particularly as it lets me throw another rock into what remains of canon as it won't be around for second year.

Honestly, I haven't really described him as he isn't all that different from canon. Fitter, healthier, a bit taller than he would have been at 13 since he's had proper nutrition. No need for glasses, but wears them anyway because of the magical specs he uses. Generally mostly the same all around, though. Pandora did sort of 'optimize' him a bit early on. But it was along the lines of simply pushing for the best version of him that his genetics allowed for. Hence the fixed eyes, Lily didn't need glasses, so she tapped into that size of his genetics for a fix, that sort of thing.

I understand why, it just wasn't the focus of the story despite it being set in the magical world. Also, canon Harry is kind of uninterested in anything more than practical magic. But the basic setup of the system makes it one of the more versatile magic systems, so playing with that is one goal...while the Eldrich stuff is just fun :-p. There are hints in canon that magic isn't quite as tame as Hogwarts presents it as. The Weasley car developing a mind of its own, the rather disturbing nature of Dementors, the more conceptual magics like Lily's protection or Voldemort's method of immortality. The hints that what Hogwarts teaches is really just a sanitized surface layer are already there. So diving deeper under the surface is something I wanted to do...

I have over 600 patrons, and you're literally the first person who has trouble with this concept. A few have needed direction to the pinned post, but literally no one has ever gotten lost once they were there -_-.
