Western Poll
Added 2024-02-06 09:00:06 +0000 UTC...and here it is folks! Thank so much for all your noms! I tried to put all the most popular votes up! I'm so sorry if one of your noms isn't on here! But I see many more westerns in the future!š®
I'm going to go approval style voting to see if there will be an underdog battle that could possibly take "Unforgiven" and "Open Range" ??? We'll see how it shakes out?! It could potentially be a Western kinda month depending on how the votes end up!

It's also an anomaly in that it's one of the few movies that was made 100% without any re-writes or adjustments to the script. The author, David Peoples, who wrote the script in the 70's, which floated around for 20 years, Clint sat on it for a decade, cried when Clint showed him the early version/cut of the movie. It's word for word what Peoples wrote. Saul Rubinek talks about this in a great candid interview about working with Clint Eastwood on Unforgiven. 2024-02-07 00:57:32 +0000 UTCWithout spoiling, it helps to understand that a big reason that Unforgiven is considered a landmark film is because "Cowboy" movies and Clint Eastwood movies in general were criticized for not being very deep, not putting much value on humanity, and purely just entertainment, not to be taken seriously. Movies like Goodfellas were often referred to as "Cowboy" movies for being very entertaining, very violent, but without any deep meaning. After Unforgiven, the media stopped giving Clint Eastwood that old crap and started taking him a lot more seriously.
