some extra notes: The look Sid Phillips gives Dr Sledge at the end of their convo is the look someone gives when they know the other person really knows the true reality. Sledge said that crossing the airfield was the most terrifying thing he had ever done in all of his life. The marines that were under Ack Ack's leadership looked up to him like he was their father, the most respected person in their unit. Sledge said in his memoir that most of them know who exactly hit the marine having the nightmare killing him, but no one in the unit would ever admit to who it was and took it to their grave. Obviously because they knew it had to be done like Snafu said.
