Tombstone Watch Along

I guess some of Quinten Tarantino's movies are westerns. BUT I haven't actually seen the Hateful 8! Which is unlike me because I love his movies. I guess I mean like classic Westerns!  But honestly this genre is going to be a fun one to get into!!

Tombstone Watch Along

Comments

I know I'm late to the party on this one, but an enjoyable watch with you as usual. If you haven't seen it, I'll recommend a western that's not a movie but a mini-series, 1883, and its sequel, 1923. Both are spin-offs of Yellowstone but are prequels to it, so you don't have to know a thing about Yellowstone to watch and appreciate them. 1883 is 10 episodes, 1923 is 8 episodes, and they give the backstory of the family in Yellowstone. I'll probably get immolated by somebody for saying this, but I like the prequels more than Yellowstone, especially 1883, which is quite realistic in portraying the journey West for a wagon train of immigrants. Sam Elliot (Virgil in Tombstone) is great, as is Billy Bob Thornton in a supporting role, and I was very impressed with Tim McGraw & Faith Hill as the leads. 1923 does a good job of depicting the impact of modernity on the West, has a pretty cool love story in Africa, and we get to watch Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren be the only things on screen more awe-inspiring than the Rocky Mountains. Yellowstone is fun with fun characters but I would watch 1883, then 1923, then decide if you want to invest the time in Yellowstone, a five-season series that hasn't finished yet. I've been horseback riding a couple of times in the Rockies, once on a date with my wife, and both the horses and the landscape are just filmed beautifully. Sorry about the length or if I'm forgetting that I've recommended it elsewhere. I'm full of a lot of espresso.

Val Kilmer is stunning in this movie.
