Familia we were left on a hook🪝 in the last episode with BTS meeting Coolio!
In this episode Coolio makes BTS go through some uncomfortable situations (to say the least) for the reward of going to dinner and going shopping with him. 💰
They were literally thrown out in the streets of Compton, LA! They had to knock on random people's doors, to ask them if they could perform for them.
Our hats go off to BTS!! 🤠
Even though the introduction to Coolio wasn't the sunniest, his goodbye was left on a better note; ending the episode by sharing his food and gifting jewelry to our boys <3
We are excited about the next episodes, we can't wait to see what other mountains BTS climbs in LA. 🧗♂️
Coolio comes off cold but again, this was to teach them about the culture. I know many get ticked off or upset with it but I don't criticize it because that culture isn't mine. Coolio knew what he was doing, he also didn't really cross a line and they knew the intent behind it. He was trying to teach them about something serious and in his mind, Tae joking was coming off wrong, that is mostly because of the cultural differences.
I'm glad there was staff there though to help them, which I think is why Tae didn't take it too much to heart. I also remember an interview with Coolio where he mentioned that Tae made him laugh so much, but he was trying to be serious and really teach them. Because of that I agree with the idea miscommunication was partly to blame.
The Dante thing was funny to a point. I'm glad BigHit stepped in and they got rid of him. Tony talked about it in the past too- He said Dante wasn't for it, and probably shouldn't have been there to begin with. He and Nate didn't need him to be honest, and those did wonderful- Of course by the time I'm typing this you've seen all 8 episodes lol. Thanks again!

I think coolio was mostly bearable but his constant demeaning remarks toward tae make me so mad everytime i see them.

Hard to watch our Tae being put down like that but I think this experience has helped him a lot too. But I just cannot help it, my heart still breaks to see someone treating any of the boys like this.

I actually enjoyed AHL and watched it multiple times already! I feel like this show is one of a kind. AHL was vital in shaping BTS's character that we see to this day! BTS would not be the same if they had not experienced these challenging and rare opportunities!💜

Dante was the worst for me too! Bet he regrets it now lol.
Well, the kidnapping was worse but that’s probably on the production team and not the kidnapping actors.

You can tell by the boys’ reactions to some of the scolding pranks they’ve filmed for us (like bang pd telling joon to choose between solo or bangtan and the jk bday prank) that the boys are no stranger to the tough love approach. The approach is not for me personally, but that tells me the boys know how to handle it without seeing it as a personal thing. Considering the factor that this is a reality show where the production team gave mentors some direction, that someone going out of line was seemingly cut from the show (dante), and that coolio seemed way more chill in scenes where the boys couldn’t see him, I’m sure the producers still had the most control here.
The tae disadvantage comment was still hard to watch, but overall, I think familia can rest easy now bc the worst of it (dante and the kidnapping imo, plus coolio for some others’ opinions)! There are still hardships but nothing BAD bad for the rest of the episodes

I don’t think Coolio was too mean and I don’t think BTS thought so either. Like maybe they were surprised by the “get down and give me 20 thing” although that’s very standard “boot camp” protocol in the states. I mean, anyone who watched I-land know how Bang PD and Mr. Son offer critique. Mr. Son told a room full of children that they were the worst of the worst. Haha. I just think the culture in Korea (or at least in the idol industry) is very frank and more tough than love. I don’t think any of those teachers rattled BTS except maybe Dante and the airport and yacht bosses but that’s bc they weren’t offering them anything either and most of the other teachers obviously were. People like to watch these exchanges and project their own feelings onto it. We don’t like people saying anything other than “you’re perfect” to our boys so we get emotional. But the boys were accustomed to taking in criticism that’s less sugar-coated and they probably didn’t have half the problem with it we did. Manager ARMYs today would be writing letters and trending ridiculous hashtags over this if it happened today, I just know it. 🙄😅

I guess they thought Coolio would be fun when he came in with antenna-like braids coming out of his hat. To be honest, I don't blame them for laughing with Tae. And I honestly didn't think he took this job too seriously in the end...Maybe he did, but it's not the impression he gave me. I do agree that he probably thought they were these wannabes goofing off, trying to film a show in America, but they surprised and impressed him. I didn't like him targeting Tae, anyway.
He wasn't even the worst, either. Dante...oof!!! 😤 Glad he was cut early.

I think they should stick with AHL. It's better to watch together instead of dividing it up so much. They have a lot of engaging content already and do a lot more than they have to.

I agree with the comment above... if you guys could throw in more vlives, live concert performances, and Bangtan Episodes would be a great way to mix it up and keep your Patreon subscribers engaged!
I know there's also a majority of us wanting Memories DVDs and more Bangtan Episodes which gives you the most insight into their daily lives/schedule, would be awesome and would answer a lot of your questions!
Hope you consider this Familia!!

And QOTD: I've really enjoyed mythology class during high school so Rome and Greece is definitely up on the list. Korea and Japan also. And all the places the boys have been on BV. Although i cant afford it, i still always look forward to travelling a lot. It's so nice to actually see great places, learn different cultures, eat some great food.. Ahhh!! If only travelling the world could be an actual occupation, i'll travel while earning money. Wow what a life!!!! 😌

I believe after this Dante was removed as part of their mentor team?? If i remember correctly. Only Tony and Nate have stayed with them and i love it because they really vibe with the boys and are very caring towards them. I just hate that Tae was always regarded as like a "burden", although yes it is done with good intentions and Tae handled it so well, still it was a bit hard to watch. But im really enjoying rewatching this with you guys. I really love listening to your perspective, trying to understand every side of the story.

I’m loving watching it every saturday with you Familia,!!! AHL shows how these boys are truly talent from the beginning. It's really nice knowing their humble beginnings. I felt so sorry for Jin and Suga in this episode, Dante was so disrespectful . And for Tae cuz he was getting treated so bad . Indeed, these boys are professional.

Yeah the little boy at the place where jimin & jk worked, years later did a video talking about it, and how they were told to "act strict" so if anything armys should be mad at the production team not necessarily the people acting that way. I mean dante took things too far, but in other instances, these people were told to act more strict towards bts for a reason

tbh I really have a hard time re watching Ahl because sometimes it was too disrespectful and the first prank with the fake kidnapping I really didn't find it funny but with your reaction it's a little less bad ahahah

I appreciate your fresh perspective on this episode, that you focus on the positives and the deeper reason for Coolio acting the way he did instead of focusing only on the negative. As a Tae bias , it's hard for me to see him being treated the way that he was ( as it would be for any of the other guys too), but you guys (and some of the comments here) gave me a new perspective on the whole situation, and at least he had a purpose to the behavior. Thank you for helping me see this in a new light.
Unlike Dante, who was just childish and disrespectful to Jin and Yoongi. I am glad this was last we saw of him on the show.
Thankfully, the worst episodes are out of the way, and you have many great ones ahead :)

dante reminded me of penthouse's joo dantae. i swear i hate both of them. dante is so rude to them in this episode, i feel so bad. they wanted to make a great performance, but he just wont listen and cooperate well. and hits jin? nahh thats just rude RUDE.
i actually kinda watch this episode a bit late because im getting myself ready for this since i know the rudeness in this episode.
but still, love your reactions and yes, not everything is bad. it is all a part of their journey!

I think we have to remember that even though this is a reality show not all of it is real. Later in the show when the members go to work for some different people it’s very obvious that the employers have been told to be very stern and harsh. I think Coolio has also been told the same thing, since it’s supposed to be like a boot camp. Still what he chooses to say is still up to him and sometimes I think he oversteps a line of what is okay.

Everyone always has an extreme opinion for no reason but you're really taking it on face value and giving people the benefit of the doubt and being reasonable and I just really appreciate. Despite this episode being cringe, the boys did learn quite a lot about how to deal with rude people, how to swallow down the anger and just get the job done, how important every aspect of presentation is, and how to take some serious critiques. In the industry they've chosen, what they experienced in this episode is easy and nice compared to how awful it CAN be, so I'm glad they experienced it in a controlled setting with people who are actually invested in them, and their future success. People see how "mean" Coolio was, and forget - how he treated them is NOTHING compared to the harsh reality of life, especially in the entertainment industry. If you suck, people will say far worse things to you. The boys DON'T suck, and they STILL say some seriously effed up things to them, even now. He helped them to grow a thicker skin, right at the moment in their careers when they really needed it. They learned how to deal, how NOT to internalize the criticism, and how to grow and become better - to feed off that negativity thrown at them and get better, grow bigger. So when things get REALLY difficult, and not just "he wasn't nice to them", the boys have that experience to help them for the future. They learned a LOT of really important lessons just in this episode alone, lessons they STILL rely heavily on even to this day. I think the strength they got from these episodes is what has kept them going all these years, even when things got rough, even when people were mean, even when they had to endure nastiness.

Ugh! I see that dante guy again… it’s good though that this is the last we see of him 😑
I don’t think tae kept any grudge from that interaction after the cooking competition though. If anything, i won’t be surprised if this is the reason why he took it upon himself to decorate and always make sure the dish is presentable in their cooking challenges in run 🤔
If he can’t cook, at least that is the way he can help since he learned that beautiful presentation is important even in food.

QOTD: I want to travel to a lot of places (and BTS with BV and packages keep making my list bigger) but SK is my number one.
I get Coolio a bit cause he is teaching something that is really important to him and he is trying to be tough and obviously the drama for the show. Dante was so childish and over the top tho. His part and the kidnapping “prank” are the most dif to watch for me. Everything else is fine and the show does get better.
I live watching young BTS. Tae is so adorable and whimsical, he really lived in his own world at that age. Also, Jimin’s “excuse me” will live forever in my heart.

QOTD: definitely New Zealand
I am so happy you guys are watching this series, honestly I've seen the whole thing like 5 times! The only person I really didn't like on this show was Dante, very bad attitude, but Coolio wasn't too bad if you understand that he was just putting his old school, hard-core hip-hop persona on for the show. I grew up in Compton until I was 17 (more than 20 years ago!) So this episode was a real trip for me...😆 The next 2 episodes are my favorite so can't wait for those.
Fun fact...Tony, I believe, gave Jimin the nickname Chim-Chim which Jimin then used as inspiration for his BT21 character Chimmy😆

I think you survived the worst. There are some moments that are cringe after this but for the most part the energy is much better. None of the future tutors are as strict and intimidating as Coolio. The only other moments that made me clench are when they go to work but I feel like a lot of it is put on for the TV show. I do think a lot of ARMYs are being extremely overprotective here. As I said, the big thing for me was that kidnapping prank but even with Coolio saying some harsh things or Dante being a prick it's probably still not as bad as things they've seen in Korea which is way more harsh in their criticisms, especially at this time. It's also important to remember that this is a boot camp show for MNET so this sort of dramaticized struggle content was what Korean audiences found entertaining. A lot of survival shows and rookie type shows are like this. This show made me love Taehyung so much because he is always himself no matter what, even with him annoying Coolio lmao

He was upset and frustrated, not "ready to fight". When will we stop spreading this narrative of Yoongi. Yoongi himself said that he hates fighting, has never really yelled at someone before, and loves peace. He was upset and maturely walked away to calm down, not ready to fight.

I do have a hard time watching American hustle life that’s why I never rewatched it again but I’m trying to look at the positive side. It’s true when BTS said themselves that their weakness and strength is being kind. I love how they take criticisms/ feedbacks lightheartedly but really that was a bit over the line when he said to namjoon that tae was a disadvantage to the team 💆🏻♀️ Anyways it’s the past and they’ve grown so I can look past it.

The episodes do get better. For me the Coolio part was the cringiest and omg out of all the ppl they showed on the show Dante was my least favorite. It just seemed like he did not care one bit about the performance they were doing at all. Of course Yoongi and Jin handled that situation so good. After these 2 episodes the show gets better and funnier with all the experiences they go throughout. I cannot wait for you guy's future reactions.
QOTD: Korea is definitely one country I want to visit but since I watched Bon Voyage season 3 I fell in love with Malta so that would be my dream place to go. I want to go and try to have the same experiences BTS had cuz everything they did seemed so fun.

I'll be honest, i skipped some parts but next episode is little bit better!!
For me, the best of this show is their broken English which is adorable and they got more confident in it in each episode! And Tae is really funny 😂 even if he were treated kinda unfair sometimes, he's really really funny and adorable here, you guys will fall in love all over again for him lol, obviously the rest of the members too but idk i just think he was really cute!! Also, his relationship with Nate is cute, like Jimin relationship with Tony!!
There's a lot of things that i don't like but it IS a good show if you overcome that, i totally forgot about them going to people's houses and performing 😂😂 it was hilarious and adorable, even tho it had some rude people
P.s.: i LOVE Tony calling Jimin by Chimchim

yea what dante did was so uncalled for. He was very rude and immature. Jin is so patient and calm, i love how they handled the situation. I was so annoyed at how childish he was acting towards them. Coolio annoys me as well, i reallydidnt like the way he treated Tae. Taehyung is so sweet and social, he didnt deserve that treatment. But aside from them, Nate and Tony are great mentors, i really like them.
