Random Post #77 - Starting the Farm Update!

I kinda got immersed in something yesterday and the day before and forgot to send the suggestion poll stuff… Sorry. I’ll send it soon. You might be curious, what could possibly be so distracting… well… I… Actually got weather to work in the game! Not only that, I found a way to change the way crops work! That being: they fucking die if left unwatered for long AND they no longer do that weird “grow as soon as it's watered” thing(They grow during the night now)!

Not only that, I added seasons! Kind of. Because of technical limitations with the way the game was set up, I just cannot add actual seasons without a disgustingly massive amount of work, so I decided on a different type of season. They are: “Rainy Season”, “Dry Season”, “Foggy Season”, and “Windy Season”.

What they do is increase the chances of weather effects happening. Rainy season rains a lot, dry season has heat waves that will kill crops if left unwatered, windy season… sometimes winds a lot and kills crops(?), and the foggy season is currently just foggy visual.(I’m thinking of making the world colors darker, and the day shorter during it, but… honestly, it doesn’t sound fun)

One cool thing is that there will be particles that will signal the season! little leaves floating in the corner of the screen, for example! (Of course, only on outdoor maps) One bad thing is that I have no plans right now to change characters schedules based on the weather. It’s already annoying enough to get to specific scenes. Imagine waiting a week to get that juicy Maribel scene, just for it to rain and mess up with her schedule?

Next up, I wanna make different crops that will grow in each season. I did get some new assets for crops, so I’m extra excited about it too! I’ll try to add at least 4 different crops for each season. Also wanna make a few special “regrowable” crops possible! Like, crops that continue giving stuff until the end of the month

The rainy season make me want to see one of the girls drenched in water with their clothes see through and twisting their shirt to get some of it out. Having a pseudo permanent crop giving a different item depending of the season would be nice. I do think seasons should have an advantage and a drawback respectively. Rainy season boosting the production of water hungry crops like rice but reducing or killing crops not adaptated for such weather. Sunny season increasing the maturation speed of your crops and/or increasing the amount you harvest at the risk of burning your crops if you don't water them everyday. That and having specific crops growing only under harsh sunlight. Windy season could bring seeds and random items blown by the wind but the sharp blades of wind will destroy/hinder the growth of your crops. I don't have a clear idea for the foggy season but the weather changes could also affect specific enemy spawn condition. Alter already existing one. Each attuned to a specific element according to the weather. Sunny=fire/light Rainy=water Windy=wind Foggy=darkness You could use the new area you've made as some monster combat zone for weather specific drops. That way you've got a part of crafting material done. If you really want to go further on this, have some Elite monsters to beat. Each one will give you one material that once fused together will give you access to weather changing ability or just a quality item depending on how easy it would be to change the weather on the fly.
