I knew we were gonna follow this group of kids, and I really think that this season is gonna be about how some of them are gonna get involved with the drug business and some others won't. And for now, because Michael refused Marlo's money and he's boxing for Dennis, we want to think he's gonna be that exception. When Na is already in, by blood, by Weebey, and that's why he already works for Bodie. Duquan needs money clearly, and Randy was already involved in someone's death.
Tommy is continuing his campaign, without real motivation. But thanks to Herc who gave that sneaky information about the Mayor to the wrong person, maybe he can make a breakthrough soon. Leister made a good job also, with the timing of the subpoenas, and it can help Tommy.

I have some advance on episodes and for me, Valcheck talks later about the witness case (and also on one of the next episodes that they put it on Kima), but he also mentioned during that moment Herc's info regarding to how the episode is built.

Jay Landsman told Norris to bury the witness angle of his case as it's an election year- and then when Landsman was alone he picked up the phone as suspiciouscly/conspicuously as one can pick up a phone, and asked for Valcheck and then Valcheck goes to tell Carcetti that info, so Landsman laughs and smiles when he sees it mentioned on the TV screen at the epsiodes end with all the detectives watching it. That's also why Valcheck mentions witnesses getting clipped; Valcheck is pro-Tommy but he also plays politics and the best way to have both sides of the bread buttered/more friends in the department is by giving Herc genuine advice and so he has an ally either way that the election goes.
