Hello !
How many times now have I wished for things in the intro and it happens directly during the episode ? But this time, it was too much ! I mean, too much informations, like, guys, I had to take two breaks during the episode just to digest what was being said. I couldn't do it in another way : an episode only about Rick and Birdperson, where we travel through their memories so we discover more about Rick's past and they mention A DEAD WIFE AND JOINING ABANDONED BETH ?
You know my theory about Rick : his original family died in that explosion we saw in the "fake" memory, he went on another reality where their Rick died/abandoned his family (it explains the Rick appearing/disappearing that Beth mentions, and Rick not being concerned when they switched again families after that). Here, they didn't confirm it but they encouraged me to believe I'm in the right direction ! Glad to see Birdperson back at the end of the episode and I can not wait to meet his daughter !!

in this episode they went into more detail about Rick's background. I think it went a little contrary to what I imagined Rick's motivations to be. They didn't go into very specific details but there were many moments... Sidedtrack - lol, what was child Rick doing? I think that went over my head, lol - I'd have to wind it back to see what that was about... 35 yr old Rick memory... who wanted to sneak into old Rick's mind. Real Rick said, it's okay, now come down and let's make you real and we can have a beer... 35-yr old Rick "Maybe you can just remember we had that beer..." and he doesn't come down. A poignant final insult to Real Rick that even the so-called "insufferable" memory of himself by Bird Person wouldn't even go with him for a beer. Makes sense if - if Bird Person didn't really want to be Rick's friend and therefore even his memory of younger-Rick also doesn't want to hang out with Real Rick. This is definitely a convoluted episode... which makes it classic RM episode! I will say that the writers would be going over and over how the pieces interlock with each other... and as we come up with theories I expect the writers also were coming up with different doors that lead to different aspects of the origin stories (they literally opened doors into different memories).

I feel like in this reaction you were "watching a Rick and Morty episode" because of the visceral response and reaction. Probably it happens in different episodes for different people because people have different experiences and background... For example the Vindicators episode was traumatic for me at the time (that was a while ago).
