Big warning (that I explained a lot in intro) : I never played the game and I knew a little of the story. And yes, I was not sure of reacting to it, that it would please me, so I wanted to wait a little. And no, I didn't decide to go for it because it's really hype and all, but mostly because of the casting, because the first reviews talked a lot about how great it was filmed (and you know it's an important aspect for me) and because I thought it would be interesting also for fans of the game, to have the point of view of someone who know nothing about it and would judge the thing for what it is, a show.
So, first, yes, I asked a lot of questions during this episode and no, please, don't answer any of it, so as not to give me any spoilers. This first episode surprised me : it's filmed like a movie, with a lot of slow scenes and discussions, and without really any big music. The first part of the episode got me : we follow a character who is getting killed at the end, so I'm warned now, anyone can die, really quickly and they don't care about how important that character is or not. I think I identified three "game" moments, but I'm not even sure, because everything is really linear, working well together… At the end, I thought it was really promising, and I was just waiting for episode 2 to confirm it.

I don't play to games because we never had playstation or stuff like that when I was young, so I don't have that culture. But I thought about it, and I made some researches, but it demands an equipment that I don't have and which is really expensive.

I thought it was a really good way to begin, to set a mood, and they almost did the same for the episode 2 : a "slow" first scene, full of informations, always in the past, to explain better things. I don't know if they can continue to do that the entire season, but at least the "memory" thing for the first scene, like after that memories of the characters.

When I heard that this was getting an adaption I was skeptical, since many video game adaptions have a reputation to turn out horrible. But I was relieved to see they did a fairly good job at being relatively faithful to the original 2013 game. Is it perfect? Is it quite as good as the game? No. But the game set such a high bar, I am just happy it's still good and promising. I enjoyed both episodes so far, I hope they keep up the consistency going forward. 40:50 The intro to the game we play as Sarah (Joel's Daughter). Then after intro it's mostly Joel, with some Ellie as well. I'm not sure if gaming is something you ever do, but I would love to see you play the game once this series is finished. I wonder if this is something would consider, should you end up enjoying the full show enough?
