Hello !
It was a good episode, but because it's a good transition episode between action ones. It's gonna serve stories and characters, to explain later some real big changes and decisions. Like for Mercer and Max that we see during this episode being full of doubts and involved a little more with our guys, so later we're gonna understand when they're gonna be fully helping us. Or for Lance who is crossing a big line with Maggie, threatening her son, so now there is no trust anymore and she's not gonna accept anything more.
And clearly, that storyline at Hilltop is functioning because of two things. First one : the writers took the time to build the tension, to make us mad at Lance but also frightened by what he could discover. Something that they didn't do at all during the last episode for the scenes of Negan/Hershel, a narrative arc that we have since seasons, a revenge story which is so important etc. Yes, I'm still mad at it. Second reason why it's working so well : the actor playing Lance. His eyes are so expressive that just with his look, he's terrifying people.
