Vinland Saga S2 3/4/5 | WHAT IS HAPPENING! These epsilon are incredible! Thorfinn ❤️❤️

Love you all H & J

Just to expand on your discussion (sorry about the long comment!): Canute is one of the most fascinating characters in Vinland Saga because of how dramatically he changes over the course of the story. When we first meet him, he’s quiet, timid, and almost fragile - a far cry from the kind of strong ruler you'd expect in a Viking tale. But that’s what makes his journey so compelling. After facing deep personal loss and betrayal, something shifts in him. He abandons his former passivity and transforms into a bold, strategic, and at times ruthless king. It’s not a sudden change - it’s a painful, believable evolution that keeps viewers hooked. What really sets Canute apart is his moral complexity, though. He genuinely wants to create a peaceful world, one without the endless bloodshed and suffering he's witnessed. But to get there, he’s willing to use manipulation, force, and even murder. That duality - doing bad things for what he believes is a good cause - makes him incredibly intriguing. Fans are drawn to that inner conflict, especially because it mirrors real-life dilemmas about leadership and justice. He doesn’t fit neatly into a “hero” or “villain” box, and that gray area is exactly what gives him so much depth. Another reason Canute resonates with me is the way he contrasts with Thorfinn. While Thorfinn has to come to terms with his violent past after a life of revenge, Canute embraces power and uses it to bend the world to his vision. Their paths are deeply intertwined but take very different turns, which adds emotional and philosophical weight to the story. Canute isn’t just a character who changes - he makes the viewer question what it really means to rule, to believe in something, and to sacrifice for an ideal. That complexity is what makes him unforgettable.

One of my favourite episodes might be coming next week if you guys decide to do a four-parter, otherwise in two weeks. Either way, my favourite episode in the entire series is approaching, and I’m so excited for it. ❤️🤐😬 Also, I really enjoyed your discussion at the end about Canute and Askeladd. I don’t want to go too deep into it yet since you’re still progressing through the season, but I’ll just say this: the two of them are such fascinating mirrors of each other. That dynamic is one of the many reasons I’m incredibly excited for how this season unfolds. There’s so much I love in these episodes. I absolutely loved the parallel when Askeladd was visually echoed through Snake during the moment Thorfinn’s body moved on its own. It was so powerful. Another thing I appreciate is how people often say the manga is better than the anime, but credit must be given to everyone behind the production of this adaptation. I genuinely believe even more love has been poured into the anime. Whoever is handling it clearly loves the manga deeply and has done it justice and beyond. One perfect example is the scene in the barn where Einar is choking Thorfinn while he’s already trapped in a nightmare. Then you see Einar waking him up night after night from those same nightmares, and they share that quiet, powerful conversation. The way PTSD is portrayed in this anime feels so real. You can feel the weight in the dialogue and the symbolism. If you remember the end of Season 1, birds were used to symbolize freedom and Thorfinn’s decision about whether to stay or leave. In this episode, the same idea is expressed through insects, especially crickets. At the beginning of Thorfinn’s nightmare, he steps on a cricket. But when he wakes up, you hear the crickets still chirping, still alive. The show places that scene right before Einar’s line about how “they think our lives are worth less than insects.” That visual shows Thorfinn’s state of mind, how he sees no value in his life, why he steps on the cricket in the first place. It ties perfectly into his internal questioning: What is he living for? What is he supposed to do? And using that same symbolism, it then transitions into when we first see Canute now and we see him waiting until the cricket moves out of the way, so to him, not all life is worthless and he believes that people should live. The parallels, so so GOOOD. There’s just so much depth and love packed into these scenes and the symbolism. This show is truly something special, and I absolutely cannot wait for Season 3.

What';s cool about Canute, it's actually a true story. He was a Dane who did become the King of England who did defeat his father and both original Kings of England to be King of the England and Norway, and the vikings! Canute was the first one who brought all of the kingdoms of Britannia into one country with Norway. The story of Thorfinn is obviously not historical with the exception with Leif Erikson discovering America but I like how it intertwines with Canute's real life journey.

1. I've said the same thing in the previous season but - I just cannot express how much I love that the nature acts like a side character in this series. It's always there, a spectator, a silent presence, a contrast to the brutality, ugliness and evil of human beings. 2. The scene when Thorfinn learnes from Einar to express gratitude to others and the first person he says it to is Einar himself... Also, he's thanking Einar for waking him up from his sleep (from his nightmare) but the scene also signifies something else. Thorfinn *wakes up* thanks to Einar. Thus, the title of that episode - 'Awakening'. He got woken up from his apathy to the reality - that he's alive because there were people in his life who let him live (his father, random women from the village who rescued him and tended to his wounds, Askeladd etc.), who recognized the value of his life and that there is still something the life can offer him, that it's too soon to give up on yourself etc. Such a beautiful scene...
