Irwin's Journey 530: Explain!

Comments

Tftc! Couple times it's "Skaudi" vs "Slaudi"

Rielgesh

Thanks for the explanation, that's far more understandable than the others - and yes, I've played starcraft, currently playing a lot of BAR - beyond all reason. Never thought of it like this, but this is actually very good metaphore. Not sure you read my edit at the top - but I removed the fleet heading to Eluathar. If you read that message I explain a bit more, and I'll have to fit the fleet's existence and why its there in another way - but I already have some ideas, it might just take a bit more preparation. I'll leave the eyes/ears part as there's a reason for it, but I did add some notes for my self to edit some more clarity and for shadowing about it. I will think on how I can explain why Slaudi send the 3e assassin without spoiling something that's been building the background. I will probably have to resort to adding a small part from his POV after Zeit gets unchained. Also, thanks a lot for the feedback. I really apprecieate the compliments, and like I said before, I'm just one guy and an idea, and I'm (sadly?/happily?) not perfect. So as much as I try, I'll make mistakes. Just point them out and I'll do my best to fix what I can now. That said, some problems lean on so much or have other things leaning on them that I can't always fix them adhoc. If that happens, trust me when I say I'll fix what I can in the final version.

Regarding the information issue, let me try a different perspective and example. Have you ever played Starcraft 1 or 2? This example works best for those who did. That game has "fog of war". it is not the only one, but I think it's more stressful in this game than in others. It means you only see where you have units watching, everything else is gray and you only know the general map features. If you actually played the game you know how very stressful it is not knowing everything. Where do you send your units? It's hard! You need to scout scout scout, otherwise they drop your base while you are gallivanting around somewhere else, not finding any enemy. Starcraft maps are very small. Saudis map in comparison is gigantic, and he only knows very little. Suddenly having two assassins disappear - and unless he communicated with the original chainer he does not even know if they were unchained or killed - must be very confusing and stressful. But he acts with a certainty that only cheating map hackers have when he sends his whole army to a single place (and its not like the unchaining is his only major issue and still open battle, but now he weakens all other fronts - did he press F2 like a stressed beginner would?). His game account should be banned for cheating! Actually, even then it makes no sense. Then he would know The Unchainer is in three places at once. PS: I AM impressed how it all fits together. You definitely get points for best world building of any progression fantasy, even compared to my favorite one A Mortal's Journey to Immortality, which across the realms became repetitive and drew from a much smaller repertoire. But that is even more reason we cannot accept weaknesses, and have to help remove any inconsistencies!

> I feel like grel and daub (mostly daub) need more love and screen time And more soulcards.

When daubutim's condition was first explained, I expected to eventually learn more about it's probably ancient origin in some legendary species. We haven't heard any new information about it in a while, but now I'm wondering if we'll learn more soon since he's back in the story more often? I know it's Irwin's journey, but I feel like grel and daub (mostly daub) need more love and screen time. If only that wouldn't mean it'll take even longer before we get to granvox...

Brian

Why couldn't Irwin make it in time to the fight? Both have body doubles just for this purpose of emergency. Besides even with split attention he used to get the message across when he was in Scour and Elauthar. What changed now? Couldn't he leave some part of his consciousness in Elauthar body?

Venson M

Yep as a thought unless slaudi is mentally challenged he’d do something to make sure nabr acc fights. Didn’t expect Irwin not to be involved but also liked that it was sorted without him and showed daub more Also like how all the nuggets of information keep slowly linking to watch other.

I had fun, i just always love seeing Daubutim showing off why he's terrifying to face in one on one

Most of the chapter kinda makes no sense.

im Panda

It was zeit

im Panda

probably both to be honest, the Whales sing you have to hear it likely and the eyes was so he just attacked and killed everybody if he saw his brother he may have snapped out of it even just long enough to be captured or killed

Slashman1

> “What plague?” It is unclear to me who says that. The guard? He is too unimportant to have that conversation at that point. Zeit ? I can't tell.

Wurschtelpotz

Another great chapter! I thought the fight scenes were really smooth and worked well. Was the reason the singing from the Chaos Whale not working on the shaidin because they were blind/deaf, or that they were becoming addled? Just curious.

Midnight Reader

Was wondering the same thing

I have a question about the two assassins. The first one was sent to Scour to kill the unchainer. The second one was sent on an exploration mission to a completely different corner of the portal gallery branch. How did the bad guy (I forgot both name and species name, again) decide that the second assassin's disappearance was because of the same unchainer? The time in the portal gallery was too short for anyone to get from Scour to the Eluathar world, nor would he have had any indication that that unchainer guy had moved that far. I don't understand why, without much information and with a lot of uncertainty, he had suddenly mobilized the whole fleet to go towards the Eluathar location? EDIT: I forgot that it is much worse: He removed eyes and ears of the third assassin, so he had to know about chaos whales being responsiuble??? Are their song's soundwaves actually important, or isn't it the soulforce and eyes and ears don't matter even for chaos whale unchaining? But that opens a whole can of worms it make makes exponentially less sense that he sent the fleet that way.
