January 2016 Patroncast

Comments

Jon, I just started my patreon donation. Wanted to say that I love the channel. Just listened to the January Patroncast. Have to say, I hope that this keeps going. Hopefully you will get enough to continue, because one of the best parts of my day is 5:00 US Central Time when I get home from work and have 30-60 minutes of MATN to watch. By the way, Assassin's Creed Syndicate is one of my favorites and I hope you will continue that series at some point. Medicine in knife form is one of the greatest lines ever. Keep up the great work.

Steven McGahan

Just wanted to say I love MATN, I think your videos are great. Especially the Indie games you play, like Fear Equation. I was also wondering if you had ever played Darkest Dungeon. It's a side scrolling adventure game, with turn-based combat. I played a few hours and it seemed like the kind of game that would make quite a good video. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the awesome content.

Matthew Heron

Hey Jon, would you consider playing for the channel games like the forest or subnautica? Not sure whether its your cup of tea or not, but I could see the latter working fairly well.

Twirly

Have you ever had Invisible Inc suggested to you? It's a turn based strategy stealth game with cyber punk themes.

Kayla Haffley

I haven't been watching these, I really should. Anyway, I upgraded my computer to Skylake 10 days ago, I just got it up and running with Windows 7. Damn you XHCI Hand-Off! Making me need to track down a PS/2 keyboard. Don't go Skylake if you want Windows 7. Though, you've just upgraded so that won't be a thing for a while :D

Sandwich247

On the subject of let's play series, I've been mulling over doing one myself - something like Skyrim, or Oblivion, perhaps one of the Witcher games (which I got gifted for Christmas), or maybe even Darkest Dungeon. Have you any advice on how to approach something like that? My only long-running series is a Crusader Kings II playthrough that's actually now getting on for two years old, but that's a rather different sort of a game.

PointyHairedJedi

Total War plans are Best Possible Opening for Rome Total War, a Western Empire Barbarian Invasion, and playing Empire for the first time.

Many A True Nerd

Ha, the thing is, in Europe, we look at Sanders and just think 'Huh, ok, a social democrat, fine' - he'd be pretty much middle of the road over here, because we consider stuff like universal healthcare unremarkable.

Many A True Nerd

Aw, well thanks very much :)

Many A True Nerd

I just wanted to say thank you. I've been going through a difficult time the last few weeks, but your videos and commentary are always a nice getaway. Your upload schedule corresponds so closely to lunch time in my country that I will have a break for the whole duration of that days video :) Your comment about how even if you could go back in time, you wouldn't, because the difficult times make who you are, that is really helping me right now. Jon, I want you to know that your videos and involvement in the community are really touching me, so I can't thank you enough!

Thomas Malone

I agree with what seems to be the general feeling. I like the long series because they become something to be excited for. My family will get together to watch yolo for example. But, I also enjoy the mini series you've been doing mid week because I am able to watch them all while I am excited for the game.

Amy Mo

I reckon it might be possible to see a communist party in US in my lifetime maybe? Providing the staggeringly increasing popularity of Sanders?

NerdyChuning

Yay, sleeping dogs. Reading the comments, love the format idea of weekly mini-series with weekend long series. Also, like the idea of your fallout series. Are you looking at the new Total War at all? Or will we see more total war on the channel?

Sam Claxton

Dont fret, It was a joke question.

Cale

Thank you so much for responding to my request for Xenonauts. I thought it would really appeal to you and the channel audience, and your showcasing of the game will probably help spread the word of this fantastic game. Thank you so much.

Benjamin Ascher

I'm sorry - I may have missed something - what was your question? I will answer it now :)

Many A True Nerd

I reckon you're right - probably it'll settle down to Saturday and Sunday being regular stuff, with every other week having a mini-series, with the intervening week something new every day.

Many A True Nerd

Could I ask where it made the local news? I'd be interested in reading that story.

L Tantivy

On behalf of sober me, id like to thank you for all your efforts thus far. been a fan since before you had 50,000 subs when your new vegas yolo run made my local news. glad to see your channel garnering the support it deserves and im already looking forward to your eventual one million subscriber special. keep it up sir!

Vinny Cassidy

Good luck with the rest of 2016, thanks for all the hours of entertainment so far Jon. I saw this video, has the topic discussed been a challenge for you at all since the move to full time?

Jack Beddoe

I really enjoy pretty much every video that you put out, we have the same taste in games so it's enjoyable to watch. Long or short, whatever you decide to do i'll keep watching. Thanks for the great content.

Mr.Doubleyou

I really come less for the game and more for your commentary. I have never played any of the fallout games, but religiously watch your videos because they are well edited, interesting, and got me to laugh. Personally, I am really liking the miniseries; the variety keeps everything fresh. I would recommend you not abandon the long form games however, as it is a reliable staple. Variety may be the spice of life, but having a strong staple is comfortable and something we can count on. My recommendation is to keep 1 or 2 long form and the rest the miniseries or one-offs. Pretty much what you have been doing in January.

Devoted2Mercury

Nawh my question didnt get answered. Oh well was a good listen, So are you going to trademark all things with Nerd in them Just think of the income Angry Video game nerd, Nerd3..

Cale

I'm thinking we'll hold at at least 2 long-form series per week in general, once we settle back into a normal post-January release schedule.

Many A True Nerd

That's kind of why I like rogulikes too - they work well for a complete playthrough in a few parts.

Many A True Nerd

Kolejka!

I suppose it's difficult to get a good read on what the community wants. You can ask your patrons, but that's just a small, dedicated subsection of fans. What we want may not be the best for the channel (e.g. XCOM). Personally, I look forward to the weekly Fallout YOLO videos and think it follows a good format. It's become a ritual at this point, where Sunday is the day that I do laundry, cook my meals for the week, and watch Fallout YOLO. I suspect that "television show" format may contribute to its popularity.

MikeBurnFire

Exactly, the combination of both long series and short series are imo what makes the channel great. You can have your regular series that you look forward every week and you get bonuses single series that can surprise you in a good way.

Kevin Stephan

I like the long series. I don't dislike singles. What I dislike is the short series that doesn't finish the game. For a taster of a game I might like to play myself, a one off video is very useful. If you go over one video then you'll invariably go further into the game than I'd want for a review. So if a game is in a series than I've invariably made a decision that either I'm not going to play it or it won't stop me if I see the later content or the end. So a series for me is more like a TV series -- I'm watching for the story. If the series then ends before the end I'm left hanging. The November where you did a video a day all month (before you went full-time) was all long videos and might have been a bit much. So some mix is obviously the way I would like you to go. Maybe half and half; just the weekend for long series seems too little.

Soronlin

Well if you give me 1 episode per week, i'm a happy man :D

Kevin Stephan

I like the long series, but I can understand why you might want to cut down on them in the circumstances. It is nice to have some more of what you might call "drop-in" videos, where you can just load it, watch it, and be done. But the long series are nice because it's like tuning in to a favorite TV show every week (or every couple of days or however often you're posting). It's something to look forward to, and I also like the aspect of commenting and participating along with the people in the subreddit.

Jan Bednarczuk

Also what was the Polish queuing game?

Samuel

Ridiculously specific book recommendation questions, ho! Robin Hobb & The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet, got it; thanks, Claire. =)

Chris de Mercado

I loved the Beauty and the Beast discussion. It was truly everything I had hoped it would be! We even subsequently got conclusive evidence that France must be stopped!!

Eric Place

I think it would definitely be at least 1 episode per week - 1 every two weeks just risks people losing interest because they forget what happened.

Many A True Nerd

I like both long and short series. But i like having some long series that are not fallout also. It would be great to see games like mass effect, assassin's creed, skyrim happen on a regular basis even if it's like one episode every 2 weeks or so and you alternate between 2 games. It's always great to see more diversity and to know we can always be looking on your channel for regular stuff as well as new exciting stuff. I'll probably increase a bit my contribution soon. Keep up the great work !

Kevin Stephan
