Do you purchase all these games in order to record them?

andrew lipkin

Can we expect to have more than one fallout video/week after the release of Fallout 4, or will the schedule remain the same with fallout only on Sundays?

Zerax

Hey Jon! Just a question on your F4 thoughts, With building a settlement in Fallout 4 do you think karma might affect town building? Like if you have negative karma you'd attract raider type people to move into your area?

Fair enough. :)

Tony Law

Damn it, come on John, now I have to double my patronage just so you can afford coffee. FIND CHEAPER COFFEE!

Deric

Hi Jon - I actually meant a general affiliate account as an additional way for us to support you, not specifically for game purchases. Most of my games are purchased on Steam :) However I traditionally do a lot of my holiday shopping on Amazon. If I bookmarked your affiliate link, you would earn a small portion of the total sale for all the items I purchase. It doesn't cost me anything - its the same to me whether or not I click through your link. But if your fans clicked your link on things they were going to purchase anyway, it might make a small contribution to help you keep doing this full time :)

Kvalhion

Btw i watched your ham radio appearance, and it was too good i would love to hear more about your conspiracies.

Cuda Baird

It's a question I've thought about before - and one I try to answer by never showing 100% of what's there - so when Life Is Strange ends, I'll show my ending, but I won't show any alternate endings, so there's still content available that people haven't seen. Something like The Beginner's Guide, I specifically didn't show the whole game, and partly because as soon as you've seen it, there's zero need to play it, because it's just a question of interpretation. Games that I complete as a series, I won't 100% them, I won't show all the side quests, etc, so there's still unseen stuff. It's a tough one, but I try to strike a balance.

Many A True Nerd

I love his work so much :)

Many A True Nerd

You're not the first to suggest it - I'll scribble it into the backlog

Many A True Nerd

Sleeping Dogs is an interesting one - I've got it set aside for the Saturday slot, as it's a police game.

Many A True Nerd

Every month is Many A True November now :)

Many A True Nerd

Maybe we could build a big aquaduct from Scotland into England to bring down the excess rainwater and restock the very low reservoirs in the South East?

Many A True Nerd

I can't talk about the details yet, but there's something planned. Watch this space - in about two weeks.

Many A True Nerd

I'm now curious how you make a massive tabby cat into a villain... She's so cute!

Many A True Nerd

And I don't like the Amazon affiliate links - I feel it creates a perverse incentive to be nicer about the game, because I would directly benefit from sales. I'm happier keeping that out therefore.

Many A True Nerd

It's completed ad views - but I'll always say to Patreon supporters, you guys keep ad block on with my blessing - a single dollar on Patreon would be worth far more than you'd create via ad revenue, most likely.

Many A True Nerd

I used to do that sometimes, but the chipmunk voices distracted me too much

Many A True Nerd

£2 for a coffee would be cheap in SE England - more like £3.50. Which is why I rarely go out for coffee :)

Many A True Nerd

Early 2016 - the old Fallouts. It is planned :)

Many A True Nerd

Yep, it is - though to get 10 SPECIAL across the board and max out all skills/ranks, you'd need to be Level 370 or so...

Many A True Nerd

Was going to comment on specific patreon cast, but I can't remember which one it was. I just finished reading The Big Over Easy and am now getting the rest of Fforde's books held at the library. Thank you for the book recommendation!

Amy Mo

I don't believe there is any moral obligation. Most people want to experience things for themselves, rather than just watch other people do it. People on vacation is a good example.. they post pictures and video s of their vacation but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to experience the vacation resort for myself. Watching someone play a game like Amnesia is nowhere near the experience of playing it for yourself. There's some videos on MATN that I will not watch until I've had a chance to run through the game myself. Overall I think the exposure helps sell more copies than it hurts, depending on the type of game.

Kvalhion

Hi Jon I'm a new patron after following your fallout videos which are all awesome and have given me so many new ideas for playing them. I'd like to know if it's possible given the level caps whether it's possible through the use of S.P.E.C.I.A.L,perks,clothing or implants etc to get 100 pets on every skill level. Well done on following your dream and keep up the great work

Pete Davenport

Hi Jon, I have a question I'd like you to answer, but I have been drinking wine so it may not be too coherent. Please bear with me.... I have no doubt that when a youtuber... let's say you for example - plays games like FTL, Curious Expedition and Bedlam, it encourages more people to buy and play these games. Indeed, that exact thing happened to me... FTL sat in my library with barely an hour played until your videos caused me to re-visit and dozens of hours later, I now consider it one of the best video games ever made. What these games share is their rogue-like elements - I have seen your playthroughs, but mine will be very different. But in contrast, I would argue that story given games like SOMA and Life Is Strange are, for many (most?) people, one shot deals. I admit that neither of these games jumped out at me as must plays, but having watched your videos I know two things 1) They are both pretty good and 2) I will NEVER play either of them as I fell I have seen all they have to offer through your lets plays. So my question is, do you worry that Youtubers can strangle sales of story driven games, and (sub-question) If I have enjoyed your (say) Life Is Strange videos, do I have a moral obligation to buy the game at some point, even if I will never play it? After all, I have definitely benefited from the many, many hours of work the developers have put in, yet so far the only person to have benefited from that so far is the Manyatruenerd Patreon.

Matthew Turner

Putting this here because my iPad won't let me comment on YouTube and I can't be asked to pull out my laptop. In Assassin's creed 3 you start out playing the main protagonist's father (a Templar). You stopped about a mission or two before that revelation.

Kayla Haffley

Can't wait till life is strange episode 5 comes out.

surfusa

Can I suggest you try out a game called Undertale? It's a wonderful meta humor adventure game which has the opportunity for radically different experiences if you do a kill everything or complete pacifist runs.

Kayla Haffley

I love the longer videos but honestly I struggle to find the time to watch a 40 minute video every day. I'm a bit behind on videos atm for various reasons and have no idea when I'll have time to catch up. But I still think longer videos should stay if it's not too much to produce.

Hazel

longer vids are good, and series too. like seeing a full playthrough of games. ever considered playing 'sleeping dogs'? also, total war series would also go down well. the return of steve.

Sam Claxton

Any plans for a Many a True November (video-a-day) this year?

Tony Law

Scotland gets more than enough rain as it is. England can borrow some if it wants.

Sandwich247

Agreed! That video was delightful.

Allison Otting

I agree with trying to keep videos to 30 min. I've had to set aside videos that were too long recently and I feel bad about it.

Vandals

I love these podcasts, in my opinion you could substitute one of your weekly videos for a podcast on youtube.

Cuda Baird

Shoutout for viva pinata

Cuda Baird

Good to hear things are going well and I'd echo the sentiment that you seem a lot more relaxed and happy in the recent videos - not that you've ever seemed grumpy and down but you can definitely hear a jolly tone ringing through. Given that half the fun of watching this stuff is the certain Joie de vivre you bring to tackling games, that's great. Looking forward to seeing your take on Halo 5, which I thoroughly agree seems to be taking itself terribly seriously these days.

Ian Stobie

Excellent news about your settling in and getting your award, yay Congratulations! It's great you've got lots planned as well as FO4. I'm swearing off FO4 videos for a while because I want to play it myself without spoiling anything. (Then again, I don't know how long I'll be able to resist the temptation) I would love to see a Dragon Age walkthrough. I also liked your Fable Coop with Claire. New games for WNW, how about White Night for Halloween, A Bird Story, or Bunny Must Die! Chelsea and The Seven Devils just because it has a giant bad guy that looks like Tabby.

Lyvvie

I really like the long videos. A lot of the other gaming channels I watch have videos between 10 and 20 minutes, and after you watch them you don't really feel completely satisfied. I feel like the length of your videos means that I've always got something to watch.

KMS

Question for Jon - I admit I have an ad-blocker on my browser and never see ads for youtube unless its from my phone app. I am happy supporting MATN on Patreon but was wondering if your ad revenue is based simply off ad impressions or if you get more for ad clicks. I'd be happy to disable my ad-blocker and click a few ads if it would help you out. Also, do you have other revenue source such as an Amazon affiliate account where you get a small percentage of purchases made from people who click your link?

Kvalhion

Personally I enjoy the longer videos a lot.. I typically fire up MATN in the afternoons while working on daily tasks at work and am constantly pausing/un-pausing as I go along. Fortunately YouTube bookmarks videos very well and it always picks up where I left off even if I load up YouTube on my phone, from home, from work, etc. Not sure if stopping/starting a single video half a dozen times over two or three days only counts as one view, but I really enjoy watching them from start to finish.

Kvalhion

I've enjoyed your content release schedule of late, and if a video is longer than my time allows for a single sitting, I will happily pause and finish when I get home; it's worth it for your jokes and insights.

Erin Trickett

As a grad student, I barely have enough time to sleep, so I do sometimes have trouble finding time to watch all the videos that come out. But that's ok! I don't necessarily feel like I need to watch every single thing. I do watch MOST of the videos you put out, but that does mean I often have to watch them a few days after they've been released. No biggie, though. I quite enjoy binge-watching tons of videos all at once on my days off.

Beatlejuice64

I will tell you right now, yolo run is legitimately impossible. there is waaaaaay too much RNG in that game. But I would looooove a kill everything run.

Deric

How much is coffee and a biscuit over there anyway? Here in the states, it'll run us about three dollars for a good cup and whatnot. Probably equal to about two pounds.

Deric

You're doing fine on video length. Two things I do to keep myself from being overwhelmed by videos: - Skip the games I have little interest in - Watch the videos at 1.5x speed. This is a favorite YouTube feature of mine.

Josh Wilson

I can safely say that it's good to hear you're enjoying it. I think you've hit that happy point we all want where we enjoy our work and it doesn't feel like work. I'm glad my financial help on here might be buying you a good biscuit or two every month... Maybe a biscuit and a coffee.

Deric

Quick Question: Fallout 1/2 No-Kill, Kill Everyone, or Yolo run. Or hell, even a Fallout 1/2 ordinary run?

Constantine

Quick Ninja Question: Do you think you will be baking anything for the holidays?

Devoted2Mercury

I think the 30 minute videos is a perfect chunk of time, but I do not mind the longer videos either. I'm really looking forward to your first impressions play through of FO4 and would expect you would need to run through it a few times before you can lock yourself down with (awesomeness) rules.

Devoted2Mercury

Right now, we kind of need to be in the South East for Claire's job, and until I know whether I can survive on YouTube alone or still need to do something else part-time, I can't move away from London where the best part-time work would be - we're already moved out of the increasingly expensive area of London we used to live in to a slightly cheaper area, so things already go further than they used to. I suspect in a few years we might move away from the South East entirely if Claire was in a position to do so, to get a decent space, dedicated office/recording room, etc, but that's for the future - we have enough space for the minute.

Many A True Nerd

I am trying to take a bit more time off - it doesn't come easily to me to relax...

Many A True Nerd

I'm honestly not sure, but it's all good :)

Many A True Nerd

It's nice to hear your routine has settled down well, though if it doesn't disadvantage Claire too much, would you consider relocating somewhere slightly cheaper. Some of the areas further out from London have slightly cheaper rent and could help the Patreon money stretch slightly more. I moved from North Wales to Hull to Oxford, and the distance money goes is really noticeable. In regards to longer videos, I work 13 hour days and something don't have the time to catch up on the videos on the days they come out. I generally put it on my Watch Later list and try and catch back up on days off, but it does feel a bit much sometimes when I miss a couple of days and have a lot to catch up on, but that's entirely my problem, not yours, and I fully appreciate the output and make sure I end up watching it. I kind of like the idea of you playing Old Games and their Series remakes and hearing how you find the mechanical and narrative changes. And finally...thanks for answering my weather question.

Anne Other

I don't know about other people, but I don't mind the longer videos. I tend to either watch them while on an exercise bike or the like for most and sat down properly while watching the important ones such as YOLO runs, so length doesn't make too much difference. Thanks once again for the autograph, I still feel sorry that I scared the living daylight out of you waving a pen in your face. :D

Elizabeth L

Don't take Youtube too heavy, your precision and eye for detail is awesome. But don't forget to take care of yourself. You can't always deliver what your viewers expect from you. And i think this community will respect that.

Jon, if the video is too long for me, I just hit Watch Later. Is that logged in views?

Dave O'Neill

Not surprised to hear you won't be doing Fallout 4 YOLO immediately. Don't know what gave me the impression but wanted it to be confirmed/denied anyway. Really looking forward to the Assassin's Creed week and hearing your opinions of the franchise that properly got me into gaming. These days I have a very love-hate relationship with it though... Its' great that you're well supported by this (patreon) and can't wait to see where the channel will go now you're fulltime. Thanks Jon and keep it up!

Hazel

So great to see what turn the channel is making. It is cool to see that you always stay true to yourself and your channel. However you are stopping with your work all of your content still has the same good feeling. Thank you!!

Boris vollebregt

Great podcast! I really enjoyed the Ryse playthrough and you expertise on the subject. I would love to see some more playthroughs with games around that timeframe as well.

Richard Muscroft

I'm so happy things are going well for you since you went YouTube full time! Thanks for the update and super looking forward to Fallout 4!!!

AlliCocoa

YES! That would be "flipping" good!

Joshua

We need the video of EGX where you get confetti-shotgun to the face :D

Hi Jon! I just quit my Netflix subscription so I can put that money into supporting you :) Also, I love the long (1 hour) video's! Keep them coming! Also looking forward to playing Fallout 4 at release with your (live stream?) video's at the same time on a separate PC :) FO4 hype!

Joshua
