Brief Update - 6/6/25

I'll probably post a few of these over the summer, let me know if you'd prefer less communications.

Rewrites & Edits Are Moving Fast

I’m deep into the rewrite pass of Part 1 and 2—currently around the middle of Chapter 5, which lands somewhere near mid-Chapter 4 in the new book structure.

Most of this has been cutting repetition and cleaning up the early chapters from when I was just getting back into writing. Plot flows better now, and things move more naturally into later key chapters like 10 and 15.

Part 2 is seeing fewer developmental notes overall, which makes sense. It was written more recently, and it shows.

I’ve cleared 5 chapters in the first 6 days, which is a good sign. Too early to lock in a final timeline, but it’s looking generous so far.

“Whispers of Light” (Chapter 1) – Rewritten & Edited

The fully rewritten and professionally edited first chapter, “Whispers of Light,” will release here on June 20, 2025, for paid supporters.

That said, it will unlock for free members before the book relaunch, so no pressure. Free members will always get early chapter access over Royal Road, even going into Part 3.

How Much Is Changing in the Rewrites?

I’ve been asked this a few times: how much of the story is staying the same?

The answer: as much as I can keep, with room for new content.
So far, through the first five chapters (just before the Glids), it’s all been improvements. Better clarity, cleaner pacing, and deeper magic/worldbuilding. The core scenes are still intact. Same characters, same jokes—just trimmed down and made stronger.

If something isn’t broken, we're not fixing it. But if it was dragging, it’s gone.

Thanks again for being here while I get this book to where it should be.
More coming soon.

PS. Don't forget to download a copy of the original ePub, complete with a rewrite Easter Egg, and the Secret Epilogue, if you're into a trophy for reading through it all.

Comments

I am doing editing myself, but with input from a professional editor. This is normally wildly expensive , so I'm very thankful for the help. I have two beta readers locally, but will likely be in the market for a few more before launch.

Are you doing all the editing yourself? Or do you have an editor/beta readers?
