Hiya there! How are we all doing today? I hope you're doing well!
I'm excited to be back with a new dev log--and to be able to give you a sneak peek of something I don't usually showcase. And that's of course, the music of Chapter Two!
While working on the alpha builds and bringing scenes to life through sprite poses, expressions and cycling through the current music tracks I had, one thing was becoming apparent to me--my current selection of tracks were incredibly limited, and I feared they might become repetitive when used so much, or just not fit the situation at all. So while I'm writing scenes in a fever, I'm also working with talented composers on the side to slowly bolster Chapter Two's already super awesome OST. I think by the end of things we're going to have quite the impressive soundtrack, and I'm really happy with how things are shaping up!
As the name suggests up above, the track I'm teasing today is intended for the monster camp! (Also I had to upload via soundcloud for now since I was having issues with the usual Patreon uploader, but hopefully I'll get that resolved down the line) Since the more I developed the monster camp, I realised I didn't really have anything that properly fit it, and was more just sort of shoehorning in other tracks that were quickly becoming stale the more I heard them there.
When commissioning this track, I had a very purposeful goal in mind for it--I wanted something fun, friendly and to have a certain 'bounce' to it. Essentially something very lighthearted that captures the carefree nature of the camp perfectly, away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city--a peaceful sanctuary you can retreat away to and have a fun ol' time with your monster gal friends! As it stands, I think the current track we have up above really captures that feeling--but I'll be eager to hear your thoughts on it and what you guys personally think on how it's all shaping up!
Additionally, a night time variant of this track will be done shortly after, that will be far more relaxed and tranquil to better capture the mood of the starry skies overhead and the crackling flames by the fireplace. After that--it'll be time to get some specific music composed for the flasher trailer I have planned that I HOPE will come out pretty well, haha.
On the writing front, things are going pretty well. I finished a pretty lengthy interaction with Lucille that can be considered equal parts wholesome and teasing, and now am deep into a h-scene with her, that I hope to have finished pretty soon~ It's something a little different than usual, but I think it really emphasizes a certain part of her serpentine wiles we haven't seen much of yet.
So with two h-scenes made, one for a scary dragon and one for a sultry lamia--all I'll have to do is wrap up the third mystery h-scene and then this new alpha build will be good to go! The third h-scene is going to be a lot of fun, if not a little unusual for poor Matt, but what's new, huh? All I know is he'll be having a ruff time of things.
Finally, I can't remember if I've talked about it too much, but in the near future I'll be aiming to get some more guest art featured on here month to month alongside the usual bonus art just so we have some more pretty eyecandy to gaze at! I already have a few artists I've approached about this new initiative, but if you know of anybody that could potentially be interested in contributing, feel free to send the my way--since it'll be paid work, for all to enjoy!
Additionally, since we hit the $2,500 goal and remained steady throughout the month, I've started to put some thought into other pieces of fun content we could have around here as a thank you for all of your amazing support over the years~
Several ideas I've had relate to one-off audio scenes--that maybe we could vote on the contents of as a group, if that sounds like it'd be cool? I could hold consecutive polls to decide on the character, the scene, and so on!
Another idea related to setting one dedicated month aside in the near future to working on a small one-shot game/visual novel, decided on by the community again, where you'd get to see it all come together in real time from conception to delivery--and get a feel for how something like that is made! Something of a mini 'game jam' if you will.
But again, these are just ideas I'm throwing out at random, and I wouldn't go ahead and do any of it without the 100% support of you guys.
Have no fear, either, for Chapter Two remains my priority no matter what! I was just thinking it could be fun and a nice reprise, even momentarily, to put our energy into something small as a bonus in between--but if everybody would rather I remain completely focused with 0 distractions and save the future rewards for something else after Chapter Two is complete, I fully understand~
Anyway, sorry for this little ramble! I just wasn't expecting for us to go over 2500--so am kind of scrambling and thinking aloud of ideas to keep the momentum going and to keep continued interest in both Quest Failed and the Patreon. I'll think some more on it and see what I can come up with!
Thanks again for the amazing support, and until next time~
