Quest Failed: Chapter Two - Dev Log #79

(If you saw this post earlier--that was me accidentally hitting publish a little too early, I apologise for the doubling up of things!)

Heya there, guys!

How are we all doing? I hope you're all keeping warm and toasty as winter begins to get just a little chillier. (At least over here! Last year we had snow near enough to Easter and it was bizarre!)

Today's dev log will serve as a small update on what I've been working on--or, a log of what I've been developing so far, if you will!

As you might have guessed from the adorable little chibi I've attached to today's post (because it didn't feel right not to have at least something up there!) I've been working on the sleepy ol' mummy's interactions! It's a lot of fun to go back to her scenes compared to some of the crueler monster girls, since Tari has such a warm, gentle touch where all she has to do is so much as graze up against you and you find yourself drooling over her and longing to give her every drop of 'warmth' you might have! These sorts of passive scenes where Matt more willingly gives himself up to the girl in question are a nice change of pace, and you might end up surprised at what sort of actions he takes during any of these sorts of scenes. I'm not saying he's going to suddenly flip the tables and become a dominant hunk of a man that'll be breaking minds and hearts wherever he goes--but at the very least, with monster girls he feels more comfortable around, he might become slightly more active and not lie there like a lump of meat waiting to be abused.

It's through these kinds of subtle actions in h-scenes I'll be trying to show his development with each character and the bonds that are steadily growing between them, making the h-scenes feel a bit more entwined with the main story, rather than being secondary to it and only existing to titillate. This is always the biggest challenge, though--making the sex feel meaningful and natural, rather than just "oh it looks like we're about due for another sex scene, huh? Better start stripping, Matty! Hora hora!" I won't say I feel I've hit a perfect blend, though--because I know some h-scenes might still feel a little contrived, but I've certainly been doing my best to provide context and build up for them all. And that's always fun, thinking of what different ways can lead these sorts of scenarios. Whether it's through circumstance, love, or he just happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time--I hope to avoid things feeling formulaic, and that you'll always be kept on your toes for when the next scene might be ready to start!

It's also fun to differentiate between some characters that are only looking for casual flings with him, and others that outright fall in love with him at fist glance. Since I'm unsure how others might find it, but I've always found it fun to have promiscuous girls that view Matty as just another notch on the bedpost rather than anything serious, and that he's not the first boy in their life, and certainly won't be the last. Which allows me to have flirty characters with plenty of experience--rather than ending up with how some VNs did it, where girls were really teasing and flirty, but were also somehow all virgins still, lol. Since I want to imply that these characters have had rich lives up until this point with a wealth of history surrounding them--rather than existing just for the MC to bed them. Buuuut at that point I guess it comes down to personal preference! Just rest assured despite these preferences, that none of the girls are going to be stolen away--so have no fear!

Anyway, rambling aside--and beyond the writing portion of things--more voiced lines have always been arriving at a good pace! I have voiced lines for a certain awoo, along with a slightly more demonic spoiler character~ And as always, I'm consistently blown away by the top notch performances the VAs have been putting in for the game! I really can't wait until you can experience them for yourself! Between this and the sound effects coming in, the game is really starting to take a life of its own!

And as I've only just realised--Valentine's is on the horizon again, oh gosh. While unfortunately I don't think I'll have the resources at hand to make another video like in 2017--I am looking for ways to make it just as special feeling! I've been debating whether to hold a special competition, or if there are other fun ways to celebrate such a loving day~ I'll keep you posted as I think of more solid ways to celebrate it!
