Keiran Afterword

And so ends this series. It didn’t end up being as long as I planned, but I think I covered everything I wanted to get done. I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Thank you for your patronage.

In regards to the future of Keiran, yes, I do plan to return to this world with a sequel series. Keiran himself won’t be the protagonist, but he’ll still be a prominent character. I’m sure you noticed the groundwork I’ve laid down in these last few chapters for the new setting – a magic school on a floating island, with Keiran’s sister as the headmistress. I’ve always enjoyed magic school stories, and I’ve been meaning to write one for years now.

However, that won’t be happening this year. My surprise writathon story is going to take me several more months to finish, and then I’m returning to the story that was supposed to be my next project (a regressor tower climber that I’ve already written about 100k words of). The two of those will take up most, if not all, of my 2025 writing schedule. But! 2026 will probably see the return of the Keiranverse. You know, unless I come up with something more interesting to work on. We’ll see how it goes.

I’ll do my best to answer any questions about lingering plot points so long as they don’t spoil the premise for the next story set in this world. I can’t think of anything I didn’t clear up off the top of my head, but I’m sure you guys have got some questions that I’d be happy to answer.

Ironically (and I swear this really is a coincidence), book 4 of Keiran launches on Amazon today https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DHH26G3X so I would appreciate a few ratings to help that get going if you’re so inclined. Thank you again for subscribing to my patreon, and farewell to those who are departing. I deeply appreciate your contributions toward allowing me to live as a full-time author.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply. Apparently I missed this comment. As far as future series goes, I'm currently planning to finish up duskbound, then do a tower climber progfantasy, then come back to the Keiranverse to pick up right where Keiran left off, but with a new protagonist and him as a secondary character in a teacher role. Ammun kept pretty much everything he stole to himself, so no, the Age of Wonders was more a result of people who'd lost magic looking back on things that were commonplace when mana was everywhere. That was why Keiran wasn't terribly impressed with the cache of gear he ended up with at the end of book 2. There wasn't really anything special in there by his standards.

thank you for this series it has been one of my absolute favorites' over the last year and i can't wait for the next one :)

Wow, looks like Gestalt will grow all over the world and keep bugging Keiran and Brakvaw for food.

Thank you so much for this story, I really enjoyed it!

I enjoyed this story a lot. I also really appreciate how much epilogue you gave us. Thank you!

Thanks for the reply. I honestly didn't expect such an in depth reply to my wall of text so I appreciate that. I'm curious about future series you have planned, and I am kind if curious to see how Kierans first few days of teaching are like at the school (assuming that there are some amusing reactions/interactions to things there). It must be convenient for Kieran that Seneca decided to do the heavy lifting of spreading better magical knowledge to the world on his behalf hehe. Did everyone looting his original Night Vale demense partially result in the age of wonders? P. S. Sorry for making you feel obligated to read and reply to every point in my walls of text.

Whew. That's a lot. Okay, let's see... Both of Keiran's parents lived to around 150 years of age, long enough to see the world revitalized. Grandfather is still alive in the epilogue, and yes, they eventually got Fourth Peak airborne like they wanted, using the same method Senica did. Nailu is still alive. Keiran considers him a dabbler because he only got to stage four and focuses a lot more on non-magical stuff, but he'll live for a few hundred more years, even if he looks middle-aged while Keiran still looks like he's 21. Stage 10 is still Keiran's goal, but he hasn't figured it out yet. Emberbloom had been successfully reintroduced to the world now that there's enough mana to bring life back to it. The kid on the platform is... a spoiler for the sequel series. Digging a hole to the center of the planet was accomplished with magic and I did not spend a lot of time considering the logistics of how they'd actually go about it. Mysteel growth plants were how they gathered enough mysteel to repair the world core's shell, so that was successful research. The gestalt colony is eternal, as more ants are constantly being born and added to the collective at a rate far surpassing the death rate. It continues to grow in knowledge and power and will still be around in the sequel series.

The only loose-ish ends I can think of (and my guesses at them) are: Did his parents live long enough to see the world back to how it was with mana again? Probably barely for themost part, but probably chose to not live for more than a hundred years with magical assistance. Grandfather brakvaw life extentions and the flying mountain range homeland? Some amount of life extensions to live for another 500 years? And the mountain range is up in the air after Senecas demnse flying test run with the mini world core powering it? Nailin lived for a naturalish life span too similar to parents with maybe some relatively light life extention via alchemy? A solution to stage 10 is to be able to create a new body while dead in the astral plane and move into that? Maybe moving soul into the astral plane? Kieran has a heap of emberblooms now in his demense which has also got a mini world core now for mana generation? That kid on the platform was stunned because there is a giant portrait/statue of him somewhere on the academy grounds and Seneca boasts about him to the students about once a year. How did they get to the world core/what about the magma and how big is the world core and was the hole. In my mine theworld core is like half the diameter of the planet and the hole in the shell was dozens of meters across. Did the metal plant/mysteel growth research go anywhere? And the psyionic ants are just living somewhere happily in a valley far away from civilisation and brakvaw places of note.

Shane

He will definitely be there. Keiran, Senica, Nailu, Querit, a few of the Order archmages, certain members of the Wolf Pack, and maybe a few others are all likely to show up in some capacity.

EmergencyComplaints

I hope we see Quorit in some capacity in the new series, I ended up quite liking him as a support character.

Hopea

Very excited for a magic school story. Can't wait!

Matt Corcoran

Thanks for the series, loved every second of it. Great job. Will def go rate on Amazon

redundant: "not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous." I'd say that's precisely what I meant.

Zenty

It's a goal he will continue to be working on in the sequel series.

EmergencyComplaints

It was nice story. a pleasure to follow. related magic school story with Keiran in some episodes sounds great!

vytas

I kind of hoped we'd get to see Keiran discover how to advance to Tier 10. Is that coming in the future stories in some way?

adam1

thats not what "redundant" means

Luci, Demon Shut-In

Of book 5? The editor has the manuscript right now, but once I get that back, I'll post an unofficial epub.

EmergencyComplaints

Thanks for the story! I enjoyed it quite a lot. We're you going to do a rough edit ebook?

Rick Arters

I completely agree, you wrote an amazing Story. I enjoyed it a lot. Thanks for that!

Maurice Jenter

Thanks for letting me know. It looks like the URL is correct, but Patreon for some stupid reason decided the closing parenthesis mark needed to be part of it and mucked everything up. I just deleted the punctuation around the link to fix it.

EmergencyComplaints

Thanks for the story! It's so rare to get a good magic-focused story that doesn't force in some redundant romance where it isn't needed. It was a great read! Good luck with your future series.

Zenty

Thank you very much for an incredible story, I enjoyed every second of it 😃

Gernot Bahle

I liked the series very much, even though i think it dragged a bit towards the end. The link is not working though, you need to change the ). part

Choegoup

Great job. Good luck with your new and yet unwritten works!
