Added 2024-10-29 01:01:33 +0000 UTC✨ PLEASE READ- BIG LIFE UPDATE: Ali cats, I was approved for an apartment today!! :D This means that I’ll no longer have to deal with the terrible traffic and schedules of family. This also means that I’ll finally be able to soundproof a space and get back into card openings too! I have so many things I want to do and I’m so excited moving forward! 😊
Having said that, I want to say that this week’s Patreon audio is going to be a little different. Rather than the dragon being this week I’ll be making that one next week, with this Friday’s being an impromptu roleplay instead. I’ll be moving in very soon so I wanted to give myself some leeway without rushing the art of our dear dragon girl 🐉 ❤️
This ramble was recorded before the above news lol. Even so, I hope you enjoy my thoughts about a dear book/movie to me! :)
I also want to apologize if my replies seemed a little slower than usual this week. I’m getting into the swing of my new job and spent a lot of time apartment searching the past few days. Talking to you all is very much a relaxing thing for me and I’ll be catching up on all of them now ❤️

No shame at all for not reading the book! It’s definitely not for everyone. I only recommend it if you don’t mind gore and a bunch of other terrible things lmao. Also, if you’re not in the right mindset of wanting to get into a character’s head it is incredibly drawn out, which in turn does make it a little boring if not in the mood xD But you should definitely watch the move- I consider it a classic! ✨ I do find it very funny that people take it seriously. Funny thing, the director made said changes to the movie to push the point of satire even more- and yet people still got upset! lol. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink 😂

The amount of memes I’ve seen and referenced from that movie alone warrants me actually seeing it (No promises on reading the book though haha) Why are they remaking it? Elementary my dear Ali, it’s the money! Hollywood is creatively bankrupt so they keep regurgitating the same successful properties in hopes to recapture the success of the original film. Profit over art and all that. The whole sigma male thing with Bateman is steeped in so many layers of irony, young dudes priding themselves on not fitting in are ironically trying to fit the image of Bateman who himself is ALSO trying to fit in with society. I didn’t know Ellis was gay! Even if he wasn’t though it’s funny that people would be offended by the book when it’s purpose is to critique the themes and ideas within it, not celebrate it. “Something something art should disturb the comforted and comfort the disturbed” y’know lol

Heck, even middle and high school I don’t think so either xD The movie is fantastic, definitely one of my favorites! Given what the book entails I think the differences make it genius in its own right. It’s one of the few times I feel that the movie did the book and character justice :)

Hell, even in the movie I feel like he’s no one to look up to haha! I’ve watched and read all kinds of theories on the book and almost all of them I could see being true. When you finish the book feel free to tell me what you think! :) I’ve never heard of House of Leaves but I’m always up for book recommendations, especially psychological ones! I’m very much a physical book type of person so no worries there. I’m one of those people that like to make sticky notes and pins while they read xD

I had a good conversation a while back about favorite genres/themes and the person I was talking with was the complete opposite of me when it came to reading and what we like- it was a fun talk though! :D Oh dear God…I REALLY hope a remake of LoTR isn’t happening. I think that would upset me more than American Psycho 😭

Seriously I'm so happy you were able to find a place I know that feeling of wanting your own space and home so I'm super glad you were able to find one! It's been a good while since I watched American psycho it's one of the moives I rewatch often like atleast once a year I frecken love it classic and the memes about it I found funny for that exact reason of those like grind set sigma males completely missing the point of it XD but some of the meme templates were pretty funny ngl. I do have the book on me which I yonked from elementary school which I think I actually took from my teacher by accident as there is NO WAY that book would've been allowed in an elementary school XD

I'm absolutely sure I had something to do with this xD The topic is pretty uncanny though. I had to stop listening a bit early because I'm reading American Psycho right now. I've loved the movie for a really long time and I finally decided I was gonna read the book. Although, it's a hard one to discuss or recommend depending on who you're talking to. Sometimes you get really judgemental comments if you tell people you enjoy it, lol. Fun story - The cashier at the bookstore gave me the absolute dirtiest stare down when I purchased it and she refused to even really speak to me. Anyone who's actually watched the movie SHOULD know it's obvious satire. I guess a lot of satire ends up being that way, unfortunately. It's similar for something like Starship Troopers. It's a cautionary tale about rampant nationalism, but you'll always have those that end up taking the opposite message. To your point, I heard a lot of business bros say they idolized people like Patrick Bateman and Jordan Belfort when I was back in college. It was wild... On a somewhat related note, if you enjoy those sorts of psychological books that mess with the reader, you might like House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Not that I think you'd be inclined to get the digital version, but this one is definitely a mandatory physical purchase. Ugh, I feel bad that I'm always suggesting something to you, lmao. Sorry about that.

Congrats again with the new apartment it’s definitely nice to have your own space I know I definitely miss my room when I visit family or what not.

It's really cool that the book is supposed to put you in Patrick's mind, I'll have to check it out. I tend to stick to reading book series, so I like to toss in something different like this as a palate cleanser in between series. Thought it was neat you like books that make you think about life, I somewhat avoid that and go for escapism. I love and hate that your brought up remakes that no one asks for. I love watching movies, but I feel like I watch less every year. Creativity is being stifled for the sake of corporate greed. And that Lord of the Rings remake example you used? I think that's actually rumored to be happening. On a lighter note, congrats on getting a place! I'm sure truck kun will miss you :p I've only found your channel since around summer, so I don't think I've seen any of your other type content. Very much looking forward to it.
