Character Preview & QOTW :)

Hello everyone, I hope you’re all having a nice week so far. Here’s a preview of an upcoming YouTube character that I’ll hopefully have out soon. Not 100% satisfied with the animation but hey, I’m getting there! I’m still pretty new to it and feel like there’s still a lot to learn. While frustrating as hell it’s fun too :) POV for this audio: Taking a break with your goth coworker 💜

While I’m taking a small break from polls to focus on learning more animation and writing some personal characters for Patreon, I am still going to do QOTW and everything else! I wasn’t able to do a cosplay drawing last month or this one so I’d like to do that too- I already have a character in mind :P

Question of the week is this: what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was very young I wanted to be an artist. Watching Bob Ross as a kid will do that haha! Then I wanted to be a writer as I got into High School. A little after that I wanted to be a Psychiatrist.

.....lol.. I feel like an idiot, didn't actually realize I named my city haha that being said, the anime con still happens!! Next one is in August! :D always wanted to go but I don't know anyone here that's into anime lol Hey, who knows! Maybe one day you'll be able to ^^ And ooh, a little game would be cool! ^^ And with your art style that'd be great too!

Delta

Sorry for my late reply again, still catching up haha! I haven’t been to Charlotte in years. Last time was probably a good 16+ years ago for my first anime convention. I’d like to go back to that con though since I think it’s still around :D As for my dream job; I’d honestly like to make it to where I can live decently making stuff with my art and writing. I know that it will be extremely difficult but hey, it’s a dream job haha! At some point I think it would be cool to make my own little game. Nothing fancy but with a cool story and using my art ^_^

alichu

Thank you Ali for your kind words. :) But please don't worry too much about me. I'm still very happy with what I've achieved.^^

Mi-kotin

That’s really cool! While I don’t enjoy spiders near or on me I do think they are interesting to watch :) While not the same I do understand having something that prevents you from doing something you enjoy, or do in the way you’d like. I’m sorry you’ve experienced that Mi-kotin, just know you’re not alone. I do think being a cabinetmaker is neat and the German name for it sounds cool! :D

alichu

Wow, that’s really impressive- great job on passing and getting all those hours in! :) I do remember the concept of accounting being fun. I enjoyed the idea but the execution and work part of it was definitely not my strong suit haha! XD

alichu

Lmao the phrasing on *insert body part here* is a bit of an double entendre

Secular Succotash

Any passing grade works! I liked most of my college accounting courses, but the biggest challenge was passing the 4 exams to become a CPA. I graduated college in early May and didn't start my first job in tax until the following January, so I was a full-time studier from May to late October just studying and taking those things (then I finally got to relax in November and December waiting for my results). I passed 3 and failed the last one by one point, but finally passed it when I retook it after my first tax season. I don't envy the people who study for it while holding down a job and/or raising a family since it generally takes 400 hours of study to be able to pass all 4.

WisconsinKnight

I always wanted to be an arachnologist when I was young. In short why, I love spiders and I love watching spiders do spider things. But I never became one, because I have strong Legasthenie (dyslexia?). There were other things I wanted to be. But these ideas died after the diagnosis. I still tried, but it was too difficult for me. And I became a Möbeltischler (cabinetmaker/carpenter?).

Mi-kotin

The dreaded math! lol. I definitely felt that. That was always my worse subject in school. I forced myself to try and understand as much as I could in college but even then a lot of it went over my head. Very cool stuff you’re into Skelly! Despite my feud with motorcycles while trying to record they are badass, I can’t deny that :P As for my animation, I’m just frustrated with myself lol. It’s not the bad kind though but the kind where you want to do something and have an image in your mind but your skill set is holding you back. I want it to look more fluid and “bouncy” for lack of a better term. I just need to keep learning and figure out how to do that!

alichu

Getting training on it next week, and my regular work has already been taken off the team calendar! No more working with business clients who think they're technical enough! :D and thanks, yea, it was when I was a kid, so I'm fine about it now, just sucked back then all through high school, I hope you're all good with your situation though!! Lol the only problem with that is financially, I was looking, and in NC, the average pay is like 30k less than what I make now, not including my bonuses lol maybe when I clear up any and all debt, I can find a smaller town here in NC to move to that isn't as expensive as Charlotte is lol Oooh, yea, I feel like if I tried doing that, I'd need my own psychiatrist just for that! Haha, so with that being said, what is your dream job now?

Delta

I’m a sucker for rain and the sound of it for sure! I think it’s my number one comfort sound. So long as you have a good hoodie on when it rains you’ll be fine! :P I appreciate the kind comment Arty, thank you! Finding a job has really sucked so far but I’m hanging in there. As for you, don’t be too hard on yourself! Life isn’t a race and you should always do what’s in the best interests of you. That’s really awesome about the photography course! I hope you enjoy it and learn a lot of cool stuff. I look forward to seeing the stuff you’ll be posting on Twitter too ^_^ This is just my thought but I think if people are passionate about something and are willing to stick with it long enough they’ll eventually find some sort of medium that correlates with it. It just takes time but we’ll get there ❤️

alichu

Nice, I like both of those too! Hell I still watch SpongeBob sometimes now :P

alichu

I would still like to make comics. I guess the issues are prioritizing and deciding on a story to tell.

Kai Zomei

I used to draw SpongeBob and Garfield comics! They were my two favourite cartoons growing up. I made so many little comic books which are now probably sitting in a box at my parents place somewhere.

codytachi

Your comment was so great, I loved it so much lol. You know what though, I respect that you’re realistic. In a way you did end up getting what you wanted. Sure, it’s not exactly the same but still a win in my book! :D

alichu

That’s so funny you mentioned Hinata because I thought the same thing after finishing her xD Like Bob said, wanting to be a Chinese restaurant owner is funny lol. But hey, Chinese food is good! I’m not going to lie, I’m both happy and jealous that you have such a nicely laid out life plan. It’s great to be doing something you love so a big high five on that! That’s something you should be proud of :) Your last sentence though, “till I fucking die I guess” is 100% something I’ve said before. Dark humor at is finest, I love it lol. I’m pretty sure I’ve said to a friend “I guess I’ll draw anime *insert body part here* till I die I guess” when they asked me how life was going haha!

alichu

Honestly, you'd probably get away with it. You'd not believe how many people sat next to me in class because of the math stuff. XD I think it was until 8th grade my Algebra teacher had noticed and put my desk next to his. And no one else was allowed near.... It was weird and funny... XD

itssimic

That’s really awesome JQ! As someone who wasn’t the best at math I find that very neat :) Very impressive that you found such an advanced type of math at an early age. I never cheated on a test in school but if I had you’d be the one I’d get answers from haha! XD

alichu

I knew about you liking music but that’s cool that you’re into engineering and robotic stuff too! :) I’ve never tried anything like that but I’m sure it’s very interesting. No need to apologize for venting, I get it. Sometimes it feels better to get it off your mind. I’m sorry to hear about the situation with your friend and their boyfriend. Like Arty mentioned, being seen as untrustworthy or being accused of something is never a good feeling. I do think in some way the world has a way of making things known. From similar/past experiences I can say that this has happened more times than not. Give it time and I’m sure things will get better. Until then I hope you’re having a better day today!

alichu

The animation process has been both incredibly frustrating and fun haha! I keep getting angry at myself because there are things I want to do but my skill set/knowledge is preventing me at the moment. I’m hoping with practice I’ll get there though ^_^ That’s really neat about your siblings and you! Pretty cool that you all ended up liking art in some way :) Were there any specific cartoons you enjoyed drawing?

alichu

That’s really awesome! Glad to hear you’re doing something you love for a living :) I remember taking one accounting class in college and my god…never again lol. Don’t get me wrong, I see the appeal and how it could be fun. I was never the best with math though so it was a tough class for me haha! I still passed though so I’m at least proud of myself for that!

alichu

That’s really cool Kai! :) I remember that comic you showed me a little while back and thought it was cool. Is that still something you’d like to do?

alichu

I wish you the best in your new project- you got this! :) As Arty mentioned, I’m sorry to hear about that time in your life. I’ve had a similar situation so I understand it can be hard. It might be something a lot of people think and say but I genuinely do believe that it’s never too late to do or try anything. If working with the forest service is something you may like there’s no harm in giving it a shot sometime! :) As for the psychiatrist dream: no, no, no haha! Psychology has always interested me but as I got older I realized that I don’t believe I’d have the guts/mentality for that job.

alichu

I'd be interested to hear why you're not a fan of your animation. You know I'm not really someone that gets inspired by other people all that much but Bob Ross was someone special, the guy goes from being a drill sergeant in the military to the most calm painter who tries to encourage others and tell them that they can paint just like he did. I used to watch him paint on Sunday mornings with my dad. As for myself when I was little I remember wanting to be a motorcycle mechanic, I really think it was just cuz I thought they were cool cuz I didn't learn how to even ride a bike until I was much older. Later I remember briefly wanting to be a fireman, no idea why. Then when I was in high school I wanted to be an aeronautical engineer, I just liked jets a lot then I learned that a lot of math was involved lol.

Sir Skelington

Lol seems pretty common amongst kids. And yea, wouldn't wish what happened upon my worst enemy, but what happened, happened, but I was 11-12 when it happened, I'm almost 31 now so it really only kept me down through till the end of high school. And one of these days, I hope I can end up working for the forest service, just no money with that lol happy to be working a job where I'm at least making pretty good money at least

Delta

You know, this is why Karma exists. She got screwed over for all the blatant stuff they've said about me and I immediately feel much better now.

BloodyAzazel

Nice background animation! I guess she doesn't mind standing out in the rain getting wet. I remember you mentioning that you enjoy walking in the rain so maybe that's the correlation? I quite like the rain too actually, the only annoyance is walking back into your house with wet shoes. To be honest, I'm not too surprised by your career aspirations. Artist, writer, even psychiatrist seems fitting for you considering you understand & care about others! Gotta say, we got winners in this community. People have mentioned some subjects I've dreamed about too - only, unlike me, they either achieved it or found an equally successful alternative. I personally have no idea what I should aim for. Don't know if I mentioned this already, but I've enrolled for a photography course. So, my focus will be to work and study photography - and hopefully make a life out of that. I mentioned once that I was going to university. I had dropped out of that. It's not for me. lmao As I said on Twitter earlier, I know you'll find a job soon! You're a great person to have in the team, I know it. Nevertheless, life can be arbitrary sometimes, so best of luck! And have a nice rest of your day/night, Ali and any Alicat reading!

Artilleries

Sorry to hear that your day went south. I'm not sure I fully understand the situation with your friends boyfriend, but I know it's not a good feeling when you've got people who don't trust you or accuse you of something without a strong incentive. I hope your day gets better, or if it's already passed by the time of reading this, I hope whichever day you're in is a better one!

Artilleries

I can relate strongly to the astronomy part! I love stargazing and photographing the night sky. I would even enjoy using websites and online tools to pinpoint the best dark-sky areas in my country. But the mathematical knowledge and dedication fell short on my side, so I dropped the idea. Great to hear you found your thing with accounting! I hope I come across something I excel at someday!

Artilleries

I once had a time when I wanted to become a video game developer as well. Sorry to hear about the traumatic period you had in your life. Glad you've at least settled a bit now. Whilst I wasn't as unfortunate, I too became lost and now I laugh looking back on my old far-fetched ambitions.

Artilleries

When I was really young I wanted to work for the IRS. I wanted to be the villain that makes people's lives miserable. Never mind the fact that I live in Canada so I can't work for the IRS. Then I wanted to be a construction worker because it's super manly to be lifting heavy things. I ended up becoming a software developer. Now I just make my coworkers' lives miserable by complaining about all the bugs they write and I just lift weights at home instead of on the job. It's important to be realistic when you set goals for yourself

cloudberrybob

Wanting to be a Chinese restaurant owner is pretty funny. Maybe you just wanted to eat free Chinese food whenever you wanted

cloudberrybob

Looking good so far! She’s kinda giving me Hinata vibes with the hair color and eyes I went through a lotta different phases of what I wanted to be actually. According to my mom I wanted to be a Chinese restaurant owner when I was in kindergarten (like wtf was up with kid me lmao), then I wanted to be an astronomer for a little bit, but ever since highschool I’ve been wanting to teach biology/anatomy, it’s actually what I’m getting my bachelors in now. My current job is pretty great though, I originally considered it a stepping stone but the pay is pretty good and benefits are great. I actually have the potential to retire early if I stick with it till I’m 38 or so. So the plan if all goes well is to retire from my current job, finishing my degree along the way, then teach high school biology. I’d live off my retirement/savings for the summer months, and once I hit my 60s or so I’d get my teachers retirement. So if I go that route I’ll have two retirement checks, my Roth, my savings, and free healthcare to boot. Then I just live comfortably till I fucking die I guess Ooooorrrr…my recently burgeoning affinity for adrenaline grows ever stronger so I keep doing more and more crazy shit to get my fix and I die young! (nah I’m a bitch I’d never get that brave or go that far lmao)

God damn am i a sucker for goth..... they're awesome!!! But to answer the question: Growing up, I always wanted to do something in the field of science - whether it was Theoretical Chemist, Biologist, Physicist, or Mathematician. I was always fascinated by the theory of science. I remember back in grade school during math class; we were practicing arithmetic and multiplication. Now, on a side note, I'm the oldest of three children and frankly the most curious (for better or worse in terms of science). I remeber going to the library and picking out a book on Mathematical Theory and Physics (two separate books). It was on Calculus and Geometric Proofs. I didn't understsnd it but i got so captivated by it that I remember writing out an entire equation (i think it was Rolle's Theorem and Differentiability and Continuity) and my teacher was beyond confused that this 2nd grader kid was doing math that he didn't understand. ANYWAYS.... From that point on, Theoretical Mathematician and [nowadays] a Professor of Mathematics.

itssimic

Another unexpected friend in the rain, yet I'm more questioned how the cigarette isn't going out. For the question of the week, it's been a lot of things I've thought about. From the start, I wanted to become a soccer player since I liked the sport when I was young. Later on when I started band in Jr High, I changed it to want to become a musician. In High School, I wanted to originally become a Civil Engineer, but I later changed that to becoming a Mechanical Engineer because I have a knack for wanting to learn about robotic stuff. (New Edit: Recently got into a bad mood set late at night because one of my friends boyfriends thinks that I'm guilt tripping and bullshiting my writing with AI. I write anything of truth that is to an extent where I can express what I would talk about, whether I'd be from a joke or on here for a small chat. Even then, they think I just ain't trustworthy, but in the end I don't even follow with it since the first person they went to when they thought their relationship was gonna end with their boyfriend was ME. Sorry if it feels like I'm venting on this for any clout and such, I just feel like today isn't my day for this to be happening so sorry for being a bother to anyone.)

BloodyAzazel

Someone get this woman an umbrella, stat. How are you finding the animation learning process, Ali? Practice makes perfect! I also wanted to be an artist growing up. I liked drawing cartoons a lot but stopped in my teen years. I still like drawing, but I guess other hobbies just superseded it. I'm kind of the odd one out in that regard, since my sister became a tattoo artist and my brother does 2D animation. My parents were always so confused as where our artistic tendencies came from since neither of them are artsy at all.

codytachi

I first wanted to be an author because I loved reading so much, but the actual act of writing always tenses me up and stresses me out. In middle school I wanted to be an astronomer because I liked space and sci-fi, but real physics and chemistry didn't click with me either. Then in high school I discovered accounting and loved it and now it's what I do for a living

WisconsinKnight

She's cute. Look forward to the asmr, although I don't like smoking much. Growing up, I first wanted to be a author, then wanted to be an inventor, then the author dream turned into comic artist and inventor became engineer. Wanting to do both stemmed from reading Rube Goldberg's life.

Kai Zomei

So far so good I think lol final week of doing my regular work before I switch over to my new project for work, so I'm nervous haha, how's your week going so far? The animation looks good btw! Honestly, when I was a little kid, I wanted to be a video game designer, though shortly afterwards when I was like 11,I had some pretty traumatic stuff happen, so I pretty much became lost and aimless for the longest time, even now I just kind of settled in my job, but one thing I think I would truly enjoy is working with the forest service. As for you, do you still want to become a psychiatrist?
