Your Kind Maid Reads You A Bedtime Story (Poem) F4A [Reading You "The Raven"] [Rain] [Page Turning] [Making You Tea!] [cozy but kinda sad vibes lol]
Added 2024-03-01 11:25:46 +0000 UTCIt's the year 3024 and you recently came back to your home planet of earth on a business trip. As a young leader paving the way for those living on Mars you've got quite the busy schedule. It's a late and rainy night when you hear a knock at the door. It's none other than your dutiful maid with tea to soothe you after a long day. What's more is that she even offers to read you a story before bed~
Happy Friday everyone, I hope this audio starts you off to a cozy weekend :) I've always wanted to do a reading for you all, so I really enjoyed myself with this one. I tried really hard to set the mood but as someone who has a slight stuttering problem some of these old words and way of talking...need I say more? xD Reading it in your head and out loud are very much different experiences for me lol. Either way I hope you find it relaxing ^_^
While I know it's obvious, I want to just put in the description that this is a poem by Edgar Allan Poe. I was very happy to find out it was in the public domain so I could read it without worry!

Thanks Succotash, I really appreciate that! My stuttering might come off a little more in my rambles since I don't edit or cut those usually (unless there's a loud sound or something haha!). Reading this did take a few times though because of that but I'm glad it turned out ^_^ That's funny you brought up Tell Tale Heart because that was the first thing I read by him! As an angsty teen I remember the Good Charlotte song "My Bloody Valentine" mentioning it and thought it was so cool back then lmao. Not sure if you've read it but "The Cask of Amontillado" is another good one!

2024-03-05 07:17:36 +0000 UTCYou say you have a slight stuttering problem but you wouldn’t know it from this reading, you killed it! Honestly that line, “leave my loneliness unbroken” is probably the most cutting. Especially cause you have the image of Poe shrieking it desperately. Honestly that whole second to last stanza is my favorite part, it really sells the desperation and despair he’s feeling. I’d still say my favorite Poe writing is “The Tell-Tale Heart” though, but I haven’t read it in years

2024-03-04 02:59:22 +0000 UTCThanks for explaining that! I knew education systems and grading were different in other countries so I find that interesting. When I graduated High School my senior project was about other countries and how different their schooling was compared to ours. I mainly focused on Japan so stuff like that is neat to learn about!

2024-03-04 01:57:09 +0000 UTCGCSEs are pretty much the first set of grades you get that matter, but they only really matter as to what College or 6th Forms you can get into, since after that the A-Levels or BTEC you do mean 1000x more, which are then also relatively useless if you go for a Uni degree. They can be taken at any time (I knew someone who did a French GCSE in Year 7, and I've known older people to do them too), but pretty much all schools do them in Year 11, which I believe is 10th grade over in the US, or more simply when you’re 16. Bit of a ramble after this, all the majn info is done. There are the main compulsory subjects, English Lit/Lang, Maths, Bio/ChemPhys (graded as double or triple), some schools make the humanities compulsory, same as one language, since that lets you get the English Baccalaureate, whatever that was. It's different everywhere, but in my school we got 4 extra subject choices besides the compulsory ones mentioned, and RE, one choice having to be a language, and another being a humanities. Ended up with 12 or so GCSEs iirc, but I couldn't tell you what I got, because I haven't had the need to remember them!

2024-03-03 23:16:58 +0000 UTCIt took me a while to get into having stories read to me. I always liked reading them to myself more, but I've heard some really good poem readings and always wanted to try it out! I think there's something about reading to myself that lets me absorb what's going on better, but I'm sure that's different depending on the person! I'm going to be honest with you, I'm not sure what GCSEs are. I looked it up and I'm still not entirely sure what it is. I'm thinking they may be like our SATs here in the states but I'm probably wrong about that. Sorry, I'm sure that sounds silly to ask but I'm curious now!

2024-03-03 05:10:46 +0000 UTCHaha, it's ok Cody! I'm happy that it's relaxing and can put you to sleep. That is a very good compliment in my book! :P I don't want to give away the ending just in case you want to finish it for yourself one day but in Poe fashion it's sad- sad and dark ; o ;

2024-03-03 04:39:14 +0000 UTCThank you Antoni, I'm really glad you enjoyed it! ^_^ I think I had to redo this around 3-4 times before I was content with how I sounded reading it lol. I stuttered quite a bit so I wanted to try and get it down as best I could. A lot of Poe's works are pretty short so if you're ever curious about getting into poems or short stories I think he'd be a great place to start! :) For the character I wanted to give her a future/space look but still keep the goth esthetic :P I'm also just a sucker for split hair so no excuse there haha! I'm happy you like how she looks though, thank you! Hope the new job is treating you well and that you have a good day/night!

2024-03-03 04:30:52 +0000 UTCHaha, it's so funny you brought that up because I literally thought the same thing before I wrote this! I remember that old episode and laughed when Lisa said something like, "He's trying to set the mood!" lol. I had a lot of fun reading this though, despite having to redo it from stuttering a few times lol. Thanks a bunch Wheniks! ^_^

2024-03-03 04:19:20 +0000 UTCI'm not super familiar with Battletech's stories other than knowing it's a game and they had a TCG at one point- which I think you may have made me aware of thinking about it haha! I am happy to see that you and Antoni connected over that though, so that's really cool- I always love reading what people are passionate about :) Maybe I can try one of the books out sometime if I see one the next time I do some book shopping. I wouldn't be surprised if maybe you heard this poem in school at one point. I could be wrong, but I think "The Raven" is his most known work. The best thing about Poe's stories/poems is that they are usually on the shorter side so they can easily be enjoyed by everyone! I remember the first story I read by him was "The Tell-Tale Heart" It's darker themed of course but I think you may like it! "The Cask of Amontillado" is a good one too ^_^

2024-03-03 04:09:01 +0000 UTCI have been having a really good time so far! The game is extremely charming and I love all of the party members even more so than I did in the original. Particularly Red XIII.

2024-03-03 03:59:37 +0000 UTCYour comment really gave me a good laugh so thank you for that xD I just imagined a cute black Chocobo running super fast and a faint whisper going, "Nevermore" lol. That aside, I hope you're enjoying your time playing! ^_^

2024-03-03 03:38:17 +0000 UTCHaha, I thought about that too and I can't help but feel like that would happen! That's why I love Patreon: they are clear about what they are ok and aren't ok with unlike youtube >_> lol. I haven't gotten a chance to watch Wednesday yet. I just recently started my Netflix back up so I'll have to give that a shot. I loved the old Adam's Family back in the day, but I think this may be a bit different than that from what I've heard. Either way, I'm willing to try it out! Different can be good :) I'm glad you enjoyed the reading Azazel and I hope you're feeling better! ^_^

2024-03-03 03:30:23 +0000 UTCVery nice audio today Ali, I do like listening to others read poetry instead of reading it myself, but I blame that on my English Lit GCSEs lol, I did not want to do the poem set we got, because the other set was totally up my alley. (Keen eyed Brit amongst us may be able to know what I'm on about) I'll admit I'm no poem buff, but the other set I knew most of the poems for already!

2024-03-02 23:28:46 +0000 UTCOk I've tried twice to listen to this and both times I've fallen asleep halfway through. Something about being read to just puts me out cold. I'd love to know how the poem ends but I suppose I will never know

2024-03-02 21:09:33 +0000 UTCI just checked out that channel, and his most popular video caught my eye (500 year history). Gonna save that to watch later because I'm most interested in the early events in the timeline (I would especially love to see how the first "Mackie" battlemech came about). And I agree, most other sci-fi universes go full-out on technological advancements. Whereas here, we've something simpler yet cooler IMO. Thanks for the recommendation, Skelly! I'm gonna subside before we create a full thread of nerdy discussion. haha

2024-03-02 19:29:17 +0000 UTCI think Mason would be reading to her. There is a youtube channel called Sven van der Plank, they go over a ton of the lore if you wanna know more. I really like Battletech because there's no time travel, no aliens, no galaxy killing weapons, it's just humans in space with giant death machines, they are the same as they are in real life, just with bigger weaponry.

2024-03-02 16:29:48 +0000 UTC*sheds a tear* That was beautiful, Ali. Haha, very well done. I actually don't know many poems (which is euphemism for; I don't know any :P) but this was kinda cool! Nice work on this, reading something like that aloud mustn't be easy. But my goodness, what have you made here for the character art? You made her stupidly attractive. She does not bare the appearance of a "maid", but rather the fictional girlfriend of a loner's space comic. lmao Great job!

2024-03-02 12:44:26 +0000 UTCI was thinking of Battletech as well :)) I haven't gotten into any books but I have read snippets of lore (mostly regarding the CLAN invasion) just to answer some questions I was curious about. I could totally imagine Ryana reading this poem to Mason on the Leopard. It does take several weeks to travel between star systems, gotta kill that time somehow, right?

2024-03-02 07:53:35 +0000 UTCThis reminds me of the Simpson’s. There was a scene when Lisa was reading the Allen Poe poem to Bart in the treehouse and Homer got scared lol. My mind just thought of that scene for some reason. This was really good and soothing. Felt like I was in literature class all over again.

2024-03-02 07:34:48 +0000 UTCWhen I saw 3024 I immediately thought of Battletech, because most people use the start date of 3025 for their games. So I'd like to imagine that our maid is reading us a poem while we're traveling to go fight in our giant death mechs. I never thought to say this but Battletech has a bunch of books and I even have one called Bred for war, so I might actually finish it lol, for those that read maybe if you like grounded scifi you might like it, but there are also many audio versions of their books on youtube. I've definitely heard this poem before, idk where or when but I've heard it. I'd be interested what other works of his you'd recommend.

2024-03-02 05:42:42 +0000 UTCWas a nice listen for riding around on a black Chocobo in FF7 lol. That's about the end of the similarities between a Raven and Chocobo but was still a funny coincidence since there is a bunch of different Chocobo colors.

2024-03-01 18:37:25 +0000 UTCMe: Professor, I'm obviously studying about Edgar Allan Poe, observe. Alichu: (Insert whatever you wanna say ) :) I swear if you uploaded this on YouTube and get copyright claimed for this(even if it's in public domain), that would just dumb. Glad Patreon isn't strick about content like this. Also fun fact(unless it's obvious :P) the Netflix series of Wednesday is kinda based off of The Raven by a lot, mainly from just Nevermore and all. That red eye and hair covering one eye is just a lovely touch to this audio about Poe. I guess you can say that you've found your "cup of tea" Alichu (lol).

2024-03-01 16:04:33 +0000 UTCI was hoping for The Raven when I voted for Poe! It has such a cool rhyme scheme and it's nice to hear it in your voice.
