Question of the week 9 and Hello!

Happy Wednesday everyone! I want to take a moment to say hello to a couple of new patrons- don't feel pressured to comment, I just wanted to welcome you! :)

So this week I thought I would ask: what is your favorite book? Feel free to comment with manga, light novels or other related things!

After my recent upload I think it's obvious that one of my favorite books is American Psycho. I know it's not for everyone, but reading it really hits different xD

Comments

Yeah, its also extremely confusing that later they made an anime called "Danganronpa 3" and the game after it is called "Danganronpa V3" and they are not the same thing at all lol. They are completely different stories, unlike the first game and it's anime

JokermanTalon

Oh, very nice! Classic titles for sure. I would have a hard time picking which of those two books I enjoyed more since they are both very good. You can never go wrong with Overlord. I'm not completely caught up but the ones I've read have been very enjoyable. I really like the art in the books too! I hope you have a nice day reading vol. 15! :D

alichu

I've heard from a few people that the games are much better than the anime- which seems to be the case a lot haha! I remember wanting to play them a while back but ran into the issue that you brought up which was having the console lol. It's nice that you can play them on more now, so maybe I can play it sometime! :D

alichu

I can relate to your comment so much! My Dad was one to get me into Tolkien as a kid. As much as I love reading, nothing will ever come close to my love for that series <3

alichu

Mine has to be a toss up between the first two books I actually read on my own in high school. The first is Fahrenheit 451 and the second being 1984. I'm not sure why they grabbed my attention, but it could just be the doomer in me :P lol Now if we're talking about lately, then the Overlord light novels have been my go to. Just got Vol. 15 and am excited to take a day and read through it. Honorable Mention: Land of the Lustrous. amazing manga/story which now that I think about may also go with the doomer vibe lol Poor crazy Phos

Phosphophyllite

I've never heard of this one, but it seems pretty cool. Looks like it's part of a series which is always exciting to get into! :)

alichu

I remember Suzuka! I only read the first one or two volumes back in the day, so I never really got into the later story. But I do remember really liking the art. I'll need to revisit that one sometime :)

alichu

My heart has it's softest spot reserved for The Hobbit cuz it's about some shorties ganking a dragon and my aunt used to read it to me when I was too smol and stupid to read. The Ali-gang power levels grow lfg Much love to the lurkers

When I was in Highschool, it was the Circle by Ted Dekker

I'm in a similar spot with Berserk but I'm not too far in, I only have 17 volumes. I plan to get the hardcovers soonish. I assume you're talking about Toko, she's great but not one of my personal favorite (at least not in the first game). Also the anime is pretty good but if you ever have time I would still recommend playing the game as the show leaves a lot out. However finding time do things is a problem for a lot of us lol so it's not that big a deal if you don't.

If manga counts then my favorite is Suzuka. A classic romantic comedy with tons of feels and gorgeous art. It starts with the cliche love-at-first-sight, tsundere-girl premise, but what makes it really amazing is the dramatic character development. The main character makes so many mistakes, but he learns from them and improves his personality so that, by the end, you're really rooting for him.

cloudberrybob

Ok, gotcha! I was curious since when I looked it up it had a number next to it so that makes sense. I've never seen the movies, but it sounds interesting!

alichu

Your comment reminded me that I still have some Berserk manga volumes I need to buy. I started getting the smaller volumes and then they came out with that beautiful hardcover, so now I'm torn on what to do lol. I've never played Donganronpa but I remember really enjoying the anime! I don't remember her name, but there was a girl with a split personality I think? Loved how she looked lol.

alichu

Very nice! I think I may have read some of A Series of Unfortunate Events as well growing up, but I don't believe I finished them either. I think there's quite a few of them! I haven't read the manga, but I really enjoyed the Nagatoro anime- very cute and funny! :D

alichu

Alex Rider is the series, if that's what you mean? Don't know much about it since I only read that one, but they have a pretty good film adaptation.

Artilleries

Happy Thursday to you as well- I hope you have a good one! I haven't had as much time to read lately as I would like, but I'm due for another good book haul. Is Alex Rider: Russian Roulette part of a series by chance?

alichu

I haven't really read many books in my life, but I always adored a short story called Arena by Fredric Brown. For graphic novels though I love Scott Pilgrim! and for manga the only one I haver really read at all is Berserk. Lastly for visual novels I really like Danganronpa, I even bought a PlayStation Vita to play them... only for them to get ported like a year later to almost every system in existence lol

JokermanTalon

Ah another cultured Tatsumaki enjoyer. Also I have that hoodie, pretty comfy.

Sir Skelington

I remember back in the day during middle school Lemony Snicketts Series of Unfortunate Events was one of my absolute favorites to read, I sadly came up from finishing the series though I needed to get through one more navel to get there. Today I really love reading slice o life or comedy manga they are really relaxing and just have a chill vibe to read! Don’t bully me miss nagatoro was the last one I read and I need to get back to reading it when I have time again!

Vince

Since I'm too late for it to be Wednesday, Happy Thursday instead! I don't believe I heard of American Psycho, so I didn't even realise there was a reference in that last video, clever! This one I already mentioned; The Secret Crusade - one of the few books I actually finished. Love it!! I'll also give an honorable mention to Alex Rider: Russian Roulette - that one was awesome as well.

Artilleries

Oh boy, I was really into reading Gillian Flynn books there for a while, Gone Girl being one of them! If you like that one I highly recommend Sharp Objects, that one is probably my favorite of hers :)

alichu

Haha, I didn't even know this was an actual book until I looked it up- very nice xD

alichu

I'm ashamed to admit I've never read a Sherlock Holmes novel. I was more into the fantasy genre growing up, but I think I would really enjoy getting into the whole "whodunnit" series :D

alichu

I've never read The Epic of Gilgamesh, but I absolutely loved reading The Odyssey in school! Still one of my favorite stories :D

alichu

I remember reading Count of Monte Cristo a while back and really enjoyed it. Never heard of The Good Earth, I'll need to look that one up. Also, you can never go wrong with Pokémon for sure! <3

alichu

I haven't read the manga, but I really enjoyed the anime! I always wanted to buy Saitama's hoodie lol xD

alichu

I honestly haven’t read that much in years so I haven’t really thought about my favorite book, but Gone Girl comes to mind. I remember being really engaged in that story, all the pieces in it come together extremely well in the end

Another Tool

I really enjoy the Sherlock Holmes novels. I don't think I could ever pick a single favourite from the list but the whole series is a fantastic read and an iconic staple of the whodunnit genre.

codytachi

I've not ready anywhere near the amount of books that I'd like to so I'll just say The Odyssey. Honorable mention to The Epic of Gilgamesh, even though I've only heard it read and not read it myself.

Sir Skelington

From a novel standpoint: Count of Monte Cristo and The Good Earth. From a manga standpoint: Bamboo Blade and Pokemon Adventures

Kai Zomei

One Punch Man without a doubt. It's absolutely peak manga, especially with One and Murata calling the shots. Also my wife Tatsumaki is in there so bonus points.
