I love receiving letters. Letters are my favorite thing to open. The one in my hands is always the one I'm most excited about
I slide my fingertip in the slit and smooth my index over the surface. It peels. It opens for me and me only [hand written letters tend to be private] and this one is just for me. Before this your tongue was here. You left some of yourself behind. I'm touching that part of you now. There's a satisfying sound when it finally pops and I can reach inside. I'm exploring with my eyes, my hands, my mind. Reading takes me somewhere else - I'm no longer here
Then it's over and I feel better

Dozens if letters, three notebook pages each, of chat about classes and teachers and nothing much from my friends who'd scattered all over the country. There are probably equally mundane missives in an old abandoned email box from a few years later, but those are gone forever. Anyway, this was gorgeous. ๐

Sliding your finger in, how much does it resist? Does a faint hint of the perfume of the sender linger? Do your hands shake while holding it, causing the paper to whisper or vibrate or call out to you? Do you catch sight of a smear of ink where a stray finger smeared in rushing to let the words out? It's a giving, and a taking, and so very personal. Such subtle subtext can be conveyed beyond the words on a page. But also I make cards about fucking ๐คฃ.
