when you hear the somewhat problematic lyrics for the first time

what song were you listening to later in life when you went "oh, well that is kind of.... an interesting... okay"

mine is always this one

"If her daddy's rich take her out for a meal // if her daddy's poor just do what you feel!"

I mean, it's still a bop but damn, mungo jerry. savage

[second of three D&D sessions with Lux, Adrian & Alice drop tomorrow right here. I'm working thru it. It is long]

I hope you found something to celebrate this weekend <3

Stray Cat Blues by The Rolling Stones is the awful. “I can see you’re just 15 years old, no I don’t want your ID…” it just cuts worse further into the song.

🎶”Young girl! Get out of my mind. My love for you is way out of line. Better run girl! You’re much too young girl” 🎶 I’m sorry… whuuuuut???

For a little British Indie addition - my family is obsessed with the new James album (Yummy). My 13 year olds know all the lyrics off by heart, but each time I hear them sing "Spit don't swallow", I feel a bit disturbed. As for celebrating the weekend, I can get behind these lyrics from the same album (also appreciated by the 13 year olds): Raise your glass Life's a fucking miracle We're made of light Our form is physical If we love life Life loves reciprocal Celebrate

Come on Eileen? Did Eileen consent to that?

Honestly not even *that bad* comparatively but I remember my dad getting mad about Salt & Pepa bc he thought they were singing "bullshit" which... Dad. You're concerned about a curse word when they're singing about banging? Come on, man. (additionally I was FIFTEEN YEARS OF AGE when this song was released. FIF. TEEN. I'd heard BOTH my parents say worse than that by that point and I'd read FAR worse than that. This is the same man who when I read For Love Of Audrey Rose at 10 I turned to on our family vacation and asked "dad, what's a cunt?" That was the year I got my very own dictionary.)

Tiny me, singing Maneater amd Whole Lotta Love at the top of my lungs.

Man, Craig David stands up though, his music is STILL amazing.

Megan (mlgreads)

A lot of the 90s rock singing about doing drugs and f*cking when I was in middle school and had no idea what I was singing 🤣 I’m so excited for the next D&D

Cami

Um 7 Days by Craig David immediately comes to mind. I legit remember singing all the words when I was like 8 years old. Also Shake ya ass by Mystikal

I think it’s this part that might confuse people since he could mean “make love” when he uses “amour” here, but it REALLY feels like a stretch hahaha : “Elle a dû faire toutes les guerres Pour être si forte aujourd'hui Elle a dû faire toutes les guerres De la vie, Et l'amour aussi”

Also, some people say that “Je l’aime à mourir” by Francis Cabrel (Shakira did a Spanish cover I think) which is a song I loooove, is about him (maybe not the real him but the him in the song) loving a child, but like WRONGLY loving a child. Personally, I always thought it was about HIS child. Like a love letter to his daughter or something… anyways, I’m still not sure but I’m for sure still vibing to this song haha

For me it’s the song “Sweat (A La La La La Long)” by Inner Circle… “Girl I wanna make you sweat, […] and if you cry out, I’m gonna push it some more”. I was 9 and really vibing to this hahahaha
