Go Ask Alice [bonus post]
Added 2024-04-05 10:47:50 +0000 UTC[Carrie introduced me to Alice]
There was this one girl...
Not Alice - Kinga. I was sitting with my magic hookah on a purple polka dotted stool stuffed with Jabberwocky feathers and Kinga came ambulating into my room. The connection was far more than electric. This was full fucking bloodthirsty. It was Sodom and Gomorrah. It was the scene in the movie where time stops but love was nowhere to be found only lust in the form of two feral hyenas having just discovered what fucking is [and one of us wasn't single]. So we had to meet in the chapel on campus in the middle of the night [never fully sober]. I'm afraid the whole thing was incredibly hot. If you've read The Rules of Attraction by Bret Easton Ellis then you'll know the flavor.
But back to Alice - a friend in Wonderland. I look forward to hearing more of her and perhaps jumping on a project or two together. She has a Quinn Drop today so keep an eye out for her on there. We were discussing poetry and I thought of [oh god when did I call her? Oh, right] Kinga and I sort of speed wrote what it felt like to leave the chapel with her. The lighting in that room was so unusual - It always looked like dawn & dusk at the same time. Kinga always spoke in paradoxes and contradictions. Time always seemed to be lying to us. It's all very appropriate [probably]
It's a [bonus post] cuz I promised you that ramble tonight and I'm a [dr] of my word. Scout's honor. Cross my heart and hope to die [lay down naked by my side. Spread your legs and open wide and look me in the fucking eye]
[thx Alice]
[oh and I love sunsets - the poem is a lie]
------
Do you know what I hate?
Sunsets.
I hate seeing light fade. I don’t like it when warm air becomes cold air. I even hate those lights that dim instead of just switch. The ones like... In offices and grade schools and rooms in public buildings you probably shouldn't be in. Light shouldn’t dim light that - it’s unnatural
Sorry - I mean it’s too natural. [It’s far too fucking natural]
And we have no right to replicate it.
I guess what I’m saying is...
Will you come back tomorrow?

2024-04-06 02:18:15 +0000 UTCI am a born nightowl, and have always loved sunsets, in part because of that. All the stages of my life the change from day to night has been key. As a child it meant stories and snuggles, and as teen it meant freedom from school and family to adventure with my friends. As a young adult it meant time to get ready for the good stuff the evening would bring, and as a parent it meant the kids were asleep and adult time was beginning. That beautiful change in light signifies that work is over, leisure (of whatever kind) is to begin. And then I look up to see the sun is soon to rise and I should really go to bed!

2024-04-06 01:19:31 +0000 UTCWhen I read the post title, immediately "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane popped into my head which is always fun, I love that song ✌️ The experience with Kinga sounds like something out of a novel, hot hot hot! Lastly, I feel sorry for people on this earth who do truly hate sunsets. It's such a simple pleasure, and mother nature puts on a show whether or not someone is there to appreciate it. The sky is so lovely and dramatic, especially when you pair that with a body of water! Ah, perfection. (And one of the reasons I am always running out of space on my phone, I have nearly a bazillion photos of the sky)

2024-04-05 16:55:31 +0000 UTC*tight hugs*. I feel everything you said right here. Last year was Nate’s Senior year in High School and it felt like this ever day. And it does seem that the older I get, the quicker time seems to move, which means the really happy times become bittersweet even more quickly.

2024-04-05 16:47:16 +0000 UTCSunsets always make me a little sad. Maybe more wistful than sad. Something about the passage of time, the relentlessness of it, how you can never stay in a moment for long no matter how badly you want to. Endings and endings and more endings, every day, like clockwork, forever.

2024-04-05 15:10:46 +0000 UTCI wish I had those types of stories. I was far too head in the sand in college to really enjoy it as much as I probably should have.

2024-04-05 15:03:38 +0000 UTCReminded of sunsets in Hawaii and the incredible view from the patio of a rental house. My best friend’s family invited me to join them on a trip to visit her younger brother on the big island. Her mom [one of those special women who manage to be a mother to everyone] would park herself at the outside dining table for hours watching the ocean and calling out when she saw dolphins or whales. Come sunset she would be joined by everyone as we tried to see the [illusive] green flash that [supposedly] occurs when the sun finally fully dips below the horizon. We lost her unexpectedly last year to cancer. Once diagnosed she lived less than two weeks so I never got to say goodbye. [She’d prefer it that way I think; my memories unsullied by her body’s final betrayal.]

2024-04-05 13:06:27 +0000 UTCThe hours between 4p through sunset are magical to me (during the EDT). My apt is on the 31st floor, facing west. I get to see the sun bouncing off the East River and the Narrows. The sky shows up in shades of reds, purples, pinks, and oranges [I wish I could share pics because the colors!] Sunset reminds me to unclench my jaw. To breathe. It also makes me sentimental [my view affords me the sight of Ellis Island, where my grandparents once were]. All this to say, sunsets soften the hard heart of this girl.

2024-04-05 12:33:01 +0000 UTCI don’t know Alice. But her voice is gorgeous, and I’m looking forward to what she brings. RE: sunsets I love them. Especially those I observe from the deck of a ship in the gulf or the Caribbean. (Fun fact, exactly one year from now I’ll be seeing sunsets over the Pacific as I cruise toward Hawaii!!). I do not, however enjoy what they portend. I have a complicated relationship with nighttime, particularly in Winter. Re: chapel shenanigans I’ve sadly never had them. I did, however, once have *amazing* phone sex with a boy from Canada as I was hiding away in the library at a church where I was on staff. Bama Angi - Blaming it on the Bossa Nova since the 1990s.
