Neighbors to Lovers inspo

This one actually happened to my best friend.  I need to give him a name because he'll come up in stories a lot.  We'll go with... Flynn.  He'd like that.

At the time, Flynn and I were on year 8 or 9 of living together.  I think at that point we could have been common law husbands.  We still text almost daily.  Flynn is better looking than I am, but I have a higher charisma score.  Together we're quite the team.

Wren had just moved in.  She was subleasing.  Wren liked sex and so did Flynn so the outcome was inevitable.  We had one meager ask for Flynn - wait until it was Wren's last week to initiate anything.  Flynn had (has?) a habit of taking all the gunpowder that can sustain a long-term war and using it for a single climactic clinching cannon blast to seal victory for one-night-only.  Sadly, it's no way to triumph in a long-term campaign.

You needed a submarine to go from the kitchen to the front door if you wanted to breath through the miasma of awkward that soon followed.  And one may have guessed, the rest of Wren's nest was a mess (say that three times fast) but short lived and so two consenting adults got their feelings hurt a bit but there was ultimately no harm done.

There's a Barenaked Ladies song - "Conventioneers" - that says it all better than I can.

Anyways,  I bought him a small bust of Errol Flynn from the thrift store and he took the hint.

The original title for this one was "Won't You Be My Reader?" which is what we call the person just off-camera or sitting next to the director.

Reading with someone is fun.  Reading with someone as your lover - mentally, it's the same as sex.

3, 2, 1 - go!  This is Juliet.  You love her and are in love with her (well, for the next 10 minutes to an hour anyway).  Quick, tear down all your walls or you won't get hired.  Expose your nerves to the balcony but don't overdue it for the front row and whatever you do DO NOT LIE.  She loves and is in love with you too (well, for the next 10 minutes to an hour anyway) so she can hurt you.  She can ruin your day.  Her smile inoculates your shit mood and your heart breaks when the warmth of her touch fades.  She is everything.  It is not healthy - it is horribly immature and wonderfully rewarding and you weren't even alive before this.  You need her.  She can kill you.  If you lost her you'd probably.... well, that's not until Act 5 but you get it.

And if you do it 8 times a week for 7 weeks, well.

"
Show-mances" we call them when the lie forgets it's a lie. They almost never last (or at least until the next one).

The audacity of imagination, amiright?

I enjoy your stories 😊

I work in a city with a decent ballet scene and know a few of the dancers. According to them, about 95% of the troupe has slept with each other regardless of sexual orientation. To be fair, anyone who spends that much time communicating with their body is prolly gunna be fun to take to bed

Oh god so much same. I'm in love literally all of the time, with no one to be in love at (on?) as it is, I can't even imagine what I'd be like. Thank goodness I'm a terrible actor

I'm more of a novice in fleeting relationships (romance in general). I'm really just here to shout out my appreciation of BNL ✨ and good call on the bust.

lethargiceccentricity

Please do not be mistaken, I’m not implying this is true of everyone who has experienced these fleeting relationships and definitely not saying it in a derogatory manner, but this verifies what I already assumed about myself…if I had been an actor with numerous chances to “fall in love,” I would’ve been a mercurial whore. The occupation I chose, a nurse, does not lend the same opportunities.

I just finished a show run where I had to kiss my co star 32 times after the whole run was over. And then you have to sit and look at them and wonder if they felt that weird little spark for a millisecond also. It’s like that saying if you smile when you are sad you will start to be happy. If you simulate love with someone for months it can definitely create some real feelings. But I’m auditioning for another show this Friday so onto the next “lover”

Toasty

I feel like there’s a parallel there to some toxic relationships some of us (cough, cough) have been mired in. When you settle or tell yourself “anything is better than alone.” So you lie to your self and lie and lie and lie. And eventually forget the lie is a lie. Or you try to forget until the lie demands to reveal itself.

Imagine dating one. I’d be a jealous psycho. 🤣

Lord I would be a horrible actor lol.

First—Flynn sounds like fun, but I’ll take charisma over looks ten out of ten times. I used to be a dancer and something sort of similar happens there, although it’s less about emotion and more about physical connection. Like if a man is putting his hands all over you and throwing you around and grabbing fistfuls of your hair in a performance, your body just kind of decides it would like to see what all that would look like in private, so people who are completely incompatible in every way get tricked into thinking they’ve got this amazing chemistry and 9/10 times it goes sideways really fast. But it’s pretty fun to just let your body call the shots for like . . . 7-10 days, tops.
