748 Red Leaf (D&D 5e + Shadowdark)

It is the largest settlement in the region and one of the farthest from the empire's capital. Its leader, Vassal Lord Arthur Reati, has utterly failed to defend the town from the orc invaders. They were barely driven off last week with heavy losses to the city watch and valorous townsfolk who fought. The current power imbalance makes for a great opportunity for mercenaries.
The settlement is in turmoil. Some are leaving town, others want to oust the vassal lord, while the constable fights to keep the ousters in check to organize the town's defenses. The characters arrive in time to make an important choice. To defend the cowardly ruler and help the constable organize the town's forces. Or to side with the ousters and replace the vassal lord with a new ruler; one not approved by the empire. What is the right choice?
