690 Threat in the Desert

In Threat in the Desert, the characters learn troubling reports of a legendary beast loose in Gondi Desert. The fabled serpent of fire, the remorhaz, usually stays secluded in the depths of the desert, a region that travelers and desert dwellers avoid. But now, the mighty creature travels farther than before and attacks caravans and travelers. The locals are at a loss and don't know how to solve this problem. A representative of several desert settlements has collected a hefty reward for mercenaries and sellswords. The beast must be stopped at once.

In this level-5 Shadowdark adventure, the characters journey to the core of Gondi desert to find the remorhaz's lair. Within, among insurmountable odds and peril, they learn something important. There is a powerful gemstone inside the lair that is somehow connected to the energy of a primordial spirit. It may be the key to understanding the recent changes in the remorhaz's behavior. The characters must decide how to deal with the serpent and the arcane topaz stone.

This adventure has been designed for Shadowdark RPG through their 3rd party license. The system is meant to be accessible to OSR players and modern players alike. Adapting the material to 5e or other systems should not be difficult.
