560 The Blue Orb

Traveler! There exists an eerie glowing orb in the darkest reaches of a cavern complex. Its location is known in the region but its meaning and purpose elude the brightest minds. The blue orb has been the subject of numerous investigations, treatises, and even ill-conceived experimentation. The arcane orb has been there for as long as written and oral history remember. Throughout time, many mages have claimed to understand the purpose and nature of the ancient artifact. But it is all untruthful knowledge drawn from rushed conclusions or the desire to become a legend and claim the impossible.

Now, a deluded mage claims they can use the orb to bind any creature in the multiverse with a spell of their own creation. Alas, such an endeavor was fated to fail from the start. Now a dark entity has taken over the overconfident scholar and uses the orb for foul ends. Strong warriors are needed to stop the ill-conceived demon and his growing army of otherworldly creatures.

This is a level 4 adventure with a bit of exploration, investigation of an underground artifact, and an interesting opportunity to have momentary access to an arcane relic from yore! Here's a low-def preview of this illustration:

Here's a close-up of the blue orb. A ripple on the fabric of reality that no one can claim to truly understand or control. It has spelled the demise of many overconfident mages.

The stepping stones that lead to the fabled blue orb are located deep underground. This strange cavern is located in the Underworld. A large network of interconnected caves and tunnels. Just reaching this location is a feat worthy of heroes!
