Who dares petition a wish from the Avatar of Woe

Traveler! Three centuries ago, a mage and explorer unearthed an old temple-like structure in the depths of a large mountain range. He followed a faint arcane trail to the interred temple. What he found there defied logic and the known rules of the fabric space. He found the avatar of an extraplanar entity that existed in both planes simultaneously. The structure around it was built by an ancient civilization as a way to honor and worship the ephemeral representation of what they thought a god.

Now many pilgrims have made their way to the strange apparition because rumor has it, the avatar has the power to grant any wish people ask from it. But one must be careful because past wishes have been known to go wrong. Apparently, the avatar twists the petitioner's words to their worst interpretation. Greed and overconfidence have ruined lives in the past when they come and ask the avatar for ludicrous things.

This is a level 8 adventure with a bit of exploration, investigation of an ancient temple, and the opportunity to ask an otherworldly entity a wish that might well go awry! Here's a low-def preview of this illustration:

Here's a close-up of the antechamber right before the Avatar of Woe. It was not originally there but past petitioners wished for extra security measures in the form of traps and guardians. Alas, their wishes ended their lives as well.

A close-up of the great hall of the Avatar of Woe. The strange floating, quasi-living entity is impervious to all damage and magical effects that originate in the Material Plane. One could say it is barely cognizant of its surroundings. Despite that, it has never failed to grant a wish to a petitioner, even if the wish is twisted out of unexplainable spite.
