Ah yes, we come full circle. A long time ago I started watching this group specifically so that I could surround myself with intelligent and inquisitive minds unhindered by cultural divisions and needless bigotries. At that time I still played a decent game now and again but had lost any interest in where the industry had gone overall. Even though the industry was boring me to tears, Yahtz and crew quickly became my window into what's next or novel versus what's less than stellar. Although I don't always agree with the sentiment, I always appreciate the reasoning. That's what I come here for, rational sensible reasoning. I live in a region that surrounds me with the kind of people who lack this reasoning with which they demonstrate daily via politics and business. So to save my sanity from the regional lack of awareness, I started watching ALL of the shows you offered at the Escapist. Admittedly, I also re-watched tons of Star Trek for exactly the same reason, but simulated sanity from the 60s can only take you so far. Have no doubt I am describing one of the darkest times in my life, career had gone to shit, friends all moved away, the locals turned to fascism, and I started losing family members as one does when they get older. My condolences and best wishes for your mother. I know how hard that is on you. I should say here that you are handling it remarkably well. Through all of this your channel, filled with fun and interesting people, has kept the depths of depression from destroying me. That is the power you wield as a group, and is what I mean by you are greater than you know. The impact of Second Wind extends beyond the space of just gaming. It reaches into connection and community in a way that provides us a brief bit of solace from the hell of the world we see today. As a group, you are greater than just a bunch of gaming nerds, you are force for authenticity, peace of mind, and joy all of which are sorely lacking in society today. This is why we fight the good fight, living well. Keep at it. PS: yeah I know I annoy the crap out of a bunch of you, but I love every damn one you jerks. :-)

This was nice. I don’t know if I’ve really experienced hardship on the level you have but video games are definitely how I can keep going to the next day, and they’re a big part of how I connect with my wife (the other thing that keeps me going). As with anything there’s people that want to take it too seriously and twist it but I like to think that games can connect us all in some way, even if it’s in discussing our differences.

Video games help me get through a lot. They always have. The N64 launched when my dad died, so that helped then and now games like Stardew Valley and many others help me when I’m having a tough time with the news and when I have episodes of PTSD. My job can be stressful (just like everyone’s) and just playing my little farm game helps me focus elsewhere instead of playing emergencies over and over in my head.

Sure did. Sigh.

Amen Nick, and I'm assuming you wrote and recorded this before the events of last night.

Thanks for doing what you do, we need you as much as we need games. ETA: and my own experience - when my mom had a cancer scare (right over christmas) a friend dragged me into WoW so I could escape the horrible waiting for test results, and I'll always thank her and WoW for that.
