[WRITE-IN] Firelink Episode #65

Xbox is raising its prices (by a lot) due to tariffs, Polygon has laid off its staff and been sold to Valnet, Giant Bomb seems to be on the way out too... tough week for gaming news and the people that bring it to you.

RIP Polygon, one of my few remaining sites I kept up with. Any worthwhile remaining replacement sites besides I guess Aftermath?

A Winged Potato

That this is the first console generation to see sustained price increases even after general inflation has subsidied shows that moore's law has badly broken down. Does this suggest that console manufacturers need to be more aggressive in how they price new consoles to maximise the profits they can make from FOMO-addled early adopters? We're already back to $699 consoles with the PS5 PRO, could we see a $1000 console next generation?

Will Cooling

As a counter, could the team share their favorite low priced steam or itch.io games? Gaming doesn’t all have to be consoles or AAA.

Inverse Skies

In our increasingly subscription-based economy, Game Pass has increased 45% in the last year and contributed to a 5% increase in Xbox revenue. For consumers, it's a great way to play a $60 game for only twelve bucks. Any negatives you guys can think of?

Freakjob

I wonder if Microsoft will follow up this announcement with an increased push towards the xbox cloud service or attempt to get game pass on more non-xbox hardware.

That worldwide price increase feels pretty rubbish. I can see Sony doing it next frustratingly

As prices continue to rise on every day items and people start feeling the squeeze more and more, what do you think the future for gaming looks like? Will AAA studios be able to weather this storm, will we see a decline in Indies? It may be possible that things become so expensive that gaming is a luxury that few choose to afford.

Venture Capitalists buying / investing in companies they do not understand and do not care to understand is the biggest issue with online entertainment journalism, the people running Fandom and others do not care about the art or work these amazing creators make and do not care to understand it, how do we fix this? independent media is all fine and good but there's only so much money to go around, only so many patreons that people can afford to support etc...

This is a great time to have a new baby honestly and I’m 3 months into having my first. No time for new games and no extra money to spend on them. I feel so far removed even if I’m willing to drop 500 to play the new Mario Kart .

In wholesome news, did you see the Clair Obscur Expedition 33 devs and the Hundred Line Last Defense Academy devs have hyped up eachother’s games?
