I played a ton of KH as a kid and when you were coming up on sections that I knew were impossibly confusing it was very gratifying to hear you read out loud the absolute insanity and your hilarious reactions alongside the perfect cuts to the games. Thanks for this Patreon vid, I know this wasn’t easy for you! Props to who did the video edits as well too damn funny all of you!

2025-01-28 12:59:52 +0000 UTCOk so two notes: 1. So I believe these games were aimed around kids of 8 and above but eight year old me would have had no chance in understanding any of that. It blows my mind that many people (as kids) were able to follow that… 2. I appreciate the effort and B roll editing (that was on point by the way) but for me I just did not see the same level of glee/enjoyment from Mr Chroshaw in his reading/rephrasing of that material- I would offer trying to cut it down to 30 mins (for Yathzee’s sake as well as our own) so just one game in a series ect and add at the end his ‘writers critique’ of the text characters . Personally I would happily see Yathzee doing that for lots of computer game ‘adjacent’ books/materials. ✌️

Maybe sprinkle in a little bit of Resident Evil while you're at it. Also, is it just me who finds it disconcerting that there is someone one the team - apparently Jesse S - who is well-versed enough in Kingdom Hearts(s) AND having enough access to the games to provide (apparently) adequate B-role all the time?! Anyway, this was fun in a positively mind-numbing kind of way.

2025-01-28 04:33:56 +0000 UTCWhile I'm sure it wouldn't help Yahtzee understand the lore in the slightest, I think instead of reading Sora's wiki page, he should've read the plot summaries of each game in release order since focusing on Sora rids the necessary context of what happens in the games that Sora isn't the main character of. Tho again, I doubt it would've helped matters much and watching Yahtzee slowly lose his mind over the lack of context as to who a lot of the supporting characters are is pretty funny

A hardcore KH fan explains the games to someone who's never played the games before in 30 minute intervals. It's a hoot, and still got more to go (they're nearly done KH3 after playing through every single preceding game)!

2025-01-27 19:15:45 +0000 UTCAs someone who knows that Kingdom Hearts lore is enjoyably convoluted, in the sense that it's just a lot to remember, this was both a lot to take in and sent me down a rabbit hole in the sense of seeing that the HD Remix Collections over the course of the 2010s were essentially, outside of Japan, Squaresoft's equivalent to ATLUS's mainline Persona game re-releases like Persona 5 Royal

Hell, KH3 has like at least seven other similar quotes that make it feel like even the writers were getting sick of things. Hell, keep in mind that Yahtzee was only covering Sora's entry, which means that other stuff like Xigbar (remember him?) being revealed to be TRUE villain behind everything in KH3's super-secret ending or the reveal in Dream Drop Distance that literally everything in the previous games, win or lose, was all intentional as part of Xehanort's master plan to set things in motion, because on top of time travel, why NOT make it so that virtually everything our heroes accomplished was useless?? Great signs of writing.
