The entire point of a publicly traded company nowadays. F*** everything including employees is long as the shareholder gets instantaneous financial gains.

AKA: Exactly what the DCEU tried to do. Marvel started with C-listers and built up. DC started with A-listers and built down. Entirely into the ground.

A lot really seems to come down to Hollywood wanting payoff without bothering to actually do the setup. Well, it seem more specifically a problem with mostly Disney and Warner Bros going by the examples used; ballooning budgets, flailing direction and an apparent culture of wasteful and disruptive filmmaking with endless reshoots and recuts. Sonic 3 comes up as an exception here for a few reasons; the first movie got very lucky with its timing as basically the last big drop right before COVID, but has pretty successfully built on that momentum. (The whole design change also comes to mind as the almost unheard of concept of a studio listening to and implementing feedback to an all-round improvement, rather than stubbornly ignoring or wildly overreacting to it.) It's not banking entirely on nostalgia, using the tried and true playbook for adapting a sprawling franchise by just treating the whole thing as a bucket of ideas to scoop from, but keeps up the energy and uses the inherent appeal of the characters. Also lets Jim Carrey have more fun than I think he has in 20 years. Seems to come down to how it's not clear why we're even supposed to enjoy or get excited for these movies other than having allegedly familiar names and faces on them, especially with how many are dull, plodding and self-serious compared to the energy and surprise of the originals, and then so many of them basically involve wheeling the decrepit original cast out as miserable failures to be picked off one by one.

Yep, people who don't understand art at ALL have all the money and think "JUST DO IT AGAIN, FASTER AND FOR LESS MONEY THIS TIME! AND BIGGER AND BETTER!!" It's time we stop pretending Vince McMahon is some kind of "aberration" that only happened because of how awful pro-wrestling is regulated.

To me the biggest issue in forever recreating 2019 is stagnation. Instead of launching into a streak of bold innovation in new genres, all the disney IPs just starting churning out the same movie every few months. Meanwhile projects like Everything Everywhere All at Once and Barbenheimer showed that even overused concepts can succeed if executed well and (importantly) given a fresh coat of paint.
