So Mikey, you could make your fantasy come true. Reverse compilers like Ghidra can turn compiled executables and binaries into close source code. I work in cyber security and there is no longer such a thing as hidden source code in my profession. It likely hasn't impacted video games yet, but effectively all source code is now public if you take the effort. You could take those 20 year old games and the source code is now just sitting there in the executables/compiled objects. Takes some effort, but you can extract it.
