The True "Cost" of Live Service | Unpacked

I'm no fan of GaaS model. I deal with enough of that in the SaaS world, and I don't like having to pay for the privilege to belong to a club full of people I don't know or like. No. Destiny was fun while it lasted, but I come back to Borderlands 2, Pre, 3 over and over again. That is the shoot and loot experience distilled to perfection. Give me a novel loot generator (some of the guns in Borderlands are crazy wacky) and let the algorithm do the work. Invite friends if I have them to have a good time, but I need to be able to be OK playing by myself as well. I will buy season passes if they keep putting out more content. The 'as a service' model is already oversaturated. Enough. No. I am less and less interested in these games. The last thing in my life is another bill.

I liked this, but I’m not 100% sure what the hook of this show is? Just something to think about with the branding, because I think it’s deep-dives into aspects of the game industry rather than specific games or trends, but I’m not 100%

Great Job Nick!

This is great. Yahtzee's and Frost's occasional takes on the industry were too rare, I can't wait for the next episodes :D

I'd love to see a rundown of all the times live service games made explicit promises or had "roadmaps" that never actually came to fruition, no matter how well the games actually did. Because it's not even just that the live service games tend to be uninspired rehashing of all kinds of other things, it's that they're also a way to make promises about what the game will be well after launch. It's like a continuous pre-order time frame for publishers now, where they can just talk about how great the game will eventually be, even after the game launches, and get new sales based on previews of a game that already exists. It's wild.
