January 2024 Revenue Report

Hey folks!

Now that we're officially paying salaries for our full-timers, we wanted to give you the January revenue report which also includes our first salary payment that went out on February 1st to give you a true cost of expenses for the business now going forward.

January expenses are higher than normal because we booked travel and studio for Adventure is Nigh - Season 4 shoot. We're heading to Washington DC for this one and have an actual studio this time so we can save on production time by not having to take down the set each day (that was a pain back in Wisconsin).

We've also brought on Cisco Araneta, who was ALSO fired by Gamurs not long after we were, to help with the sales side of Second Wind, and he's made a big impact already. He'll be our new Head of Sales going forward, and we've got a lot of great sponsors already lined-up for the next month or so, with more partnerships on the way.

Overall, we're starting 2024 in a really nice position thanks to your support. We are starting to see a bit of a dip on Patreon again, but hopefully with big projects like Adventure is Nigh - Season 4 coming up, we can get that number ticking upwards again!

Your next report will arrive at the end of March 2024.

Thanks for your support, and if you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments!

Well done! If you are still in the market for Health Insurance, I work for a small company called Gravie. If you message me directly I can get you in touch with someone who can help you out.

Jason Griffiths

Cheers to that! Gotta celebrate every once in a while.

Jesper van den Bergh

Way above!

Nick Calandra

Good work Nick

Scottpligrimrules

Twitch be stingy.

benjameshodges

This is excellent to see! Glad to see positive numbers! Now that the dust has settled and you all are starting to get into routines, is this above, below, or right where you were expecting to be financially?

TwilightShadow

Nah, no time and too much to do for AIN while we're there to set it up. We'll definitely look at a meetup at SOME POINT. Gotta do a launch party for this whole thing!

Nick Calandra

After this "Group" success 😁, I hope the stress levels are low and confidence levels are high 🥰. Warmest regards.

Ahmad Seet

Any plans for a meetup in DC? If not, no worries! You guys are doing great work.

Jesper van den Bergh

Oh boy you're in for a treat. It's some of the best stuff we do.

Nick Calandra

I'm going to have to catch up then, seems like big plans are in motion for it and for Second Wind as whole. Thank you all at Second Wind for your hard work.

Yiorgos

Great work everyone 🥰🥰🥰🥰

RubySpook

Sponsors, merch and subscription revenue. Ad rev isn’t even part of the equation for it. We’ve got cool merch plans like Blu Rays of the seasons, plushies etc.

Nick Calandra

This is one of the best projects I've seen come out in a while. Creator owned all the way. Amazing stuff guys!

Javan606

This looks great guys! Keep going! AIN isn't even "new" yet. Also, SW is still missing the first 2 seasons, so that may have an impact. It's a pretty impressive outlook. Just be the stewards you've been thus far!

WordsmithofSol

Appreciate the transparency Nick! Curious, the money required for Adventures is Nigh seems big financially, how do you determine if it's worth that investment? View count or other metrics?

Yiorgos

As another idea, have you considered maybe doing like a "lifetime phoenix" membership? Maybe like 10x a yearly membership? Congrats on the strong growth by the way!

Russell Schafer

I really appreciate the breakdown. Helps understand these things better from my poor layman perspective

Albert Squires

Love to see that Patreon number!!!!!! Was nervous after looking at the salaries until I saw that, great job guys!!!!! Keep up the amazing work!!!! You guys will continue to crush it I know!

Sean Harriman

My Accountancy is weak, but it looks like things are going well, and I'm very glad to see that.

Eric McKenney

Still blows my mind how ad revenue on YouTube is as low as it is.

My Wet Rooster

Cheers for the answers Nick - and thanks for sharing all the information. Its super interesting

Will Cooling

Thanks for the insight! As far as it goes for me, I trust y'all and will definitely be continuing to support.

Tony Micer

I love this. I'm Getting Jim Sterling going independent vibes. I'm happy to lend my small support to see this outcome. Keep it up.

Scrap_Dragon

Considering the extra expenses this month it's looking healthy. Congrats on the success all.

YellaChicken

Glad the salaries started for folks. Once a month pay schedule sucked for the little while I was on it. Hope it works out for yall! Happy to help keep the lights on.

Zachary Ferguson

Not a negative figure. It's Net 30. So for the merch we sold in January, we won't get the payment for until the end of February.

Nick Calandra

We actually doubled our sponsor rev from December, and are on track to double sponsor rev again in February. Takes some time to get the deal and the audience data in to start making these deals, but they're coming now!

Nick Calandra

Out of interest is there a reason Merchandise is a negative figure? Is that just because you were paid for stuff in previous months, and are now having to produce it?

Will Cooling

It's Gross because we don't know what our taxes are on all this just yet lol.

Nick Calandra

Fascinating insights. Not in the least bit surprised Patreon dwarfs YouTube income (sadly) but was slightly surprised that Sponsor revenue wasn't a touch more but I guess it's still early days in business terms. Proud to have been a patron from day one and good luck with the continued, excellent content all!

ethzero

Shouldn't it read Net Revenue rather than Gross? Gross is before expenses, and Net is after

Will Cooling

I'm actually not really a gamer but I enjoy Yahtzee's commentaries, and I know Jack Packard has mouths to feed and fart bags to buy, so I'm happy to pitch in.

B.J. Wilson

This really highlights just how little YouTube pays theses days. Unless you're getting a billion views, it's not really a sustainable model for anything more than 1 person who got really lucky and can handle the massive workload themselves. Wow 😳

Maximilian Vermilye

Paychecks whoo!

Earl Elmore

Yup, we've done it every month since we started. We want people to know what it costs to run this place and so they're confident about what your putting your money into.

Nick Calandra

The income is looking solid even with the salaries going out. (I have no experience in higher management i see positive i assume good) Congrats

IonBadger

Thanks for the transparency. Great to see how well it's going!

mecar

I appreciate the transparency! Glad you all get fairly compensated.

Altinia Holdings Inc

Should you really be posting all this?
