2025-03-29 01:02:29 +0000 UTCI didn't quite realize how big a deal this battle was. Japan was after our aircraft carriers. If they had taken out our carriers, it would have severely crippled America's fighting ability during WWII. Without our carriers, Japan would have had dominance over the Pacific, and they may have even launched an invasion on the US West Coast. Also, most of the US military was located in Eastern United States, and we didn't have interstates to easily transport them from east to west. It took the US military MONTHS to move troops over to California. Which meant if Japan had attacked the US west coast, it would have taken forever for us to respond. That would have taken the US out of the European theater, leaving Britain alone to face Germany and the Nazis. But since the Japanese missed our carriers, and we took theirs out, it changed the war. We had dominance over the Pacific, and were able to fight on both fronts, Europe and Japan. Pretty crazy stuff.
