And just to clear up Elllie and Mish's confusion about the flags seen at the surrender of Fort William Henry; they aren't the "National" flags of Britain and France, but the various flags of the regiments of soldiers (grey coats for the French, red coats for the British) present at the battle.

2023-09-07 07:15:53 +0000 UTCI’m so glad that Ellie picked up on the sweeping grandeur of the music in this film – it really does add a huge depth to the drama and tragedy of the storyline – maybe among the most iconic soundtracks of the last forty years or so. And yes, I feel sure the cinematically beautiful, majestic landscapes were included as a stark contrast to the brutal nature (on all sides) of the Seven Years’ War – arguably the first global conflict of its kind.

2023-09-06 02:20:08 +0000 UTCHi Michelle how the cannons are fired is a large pre-made sack of gunpowder that always weighs the same is put down the barrel followed by the cannon ball that weighs between 6-12 pounds. They are rammed to the bottom by a rod the size of a broom and then the ignition hole on top of the cannon is touched with the metal rod that looks like a “T” which has burning ropes wrapped around it. Once the first round is fired the gun crew can change where the next round goes by raising or lowering the back end of the cannon. Lowering the back end of the cannon will make the shot go farther and raising the back end makes the shot go closer. They adjusted the back end of the cannon with a large bolt that was underneath the cannon and could be turned by hand.
