2022-06-10 07:58:45 +0000 UTCWhen i saw your girls had watched this i was sure you would have an aneurism by the end considering you get confused watching MARVEL films :). It really isn't that confusing but by the way Nolan showed the film to the audience it can be confusing but only because it convinces you to think to much . The simple explanation is that Lenny Shelby (pearce ) is a cop who suffers short term memory loss due to a break in at his home which his wife is raped and murdered, but this is in fact untrue, its a memory he has created. So believing he can teach himself to retain memory through conditioning he goes about searching for the killer . The short story is Lenny created a lie of a conumdrum he can never solve, his wife did not die in the Burglary but survived but later lenny killed her with an overdose unwillingly just like he imagined in the other ongoing sub story throughout the film, sammys story!!!!. His wife chose to suicide using Lenny and he chose to make up a story to stop him remembering he actually killed her,everybody in this film is using lenny for there own greed or other motives. Ultimately Lenny created a puzzle he can never solve, chasing a killer that never existed, he was the killer and conditioned himself with false props and clues to continue chasing the fictitious killer. Its only through the beginning scene and the scene with Teddy informing him of other things like when he said "that's who you were" do we get the full picture of really what happened, you still have to piece shit together though to realise its mostly lies in this film along with snippets of mixed up truths and facts.

2021-10-03 17:21:34 +0000 UTC1) Teddy gets Leonard to kill Jimmy, Leonard decides to kill Teddy. 2) Leonard meets Natalie, she spits in the drink, takes him home. 3) Natalie manipulates Leonard into running Dodd out of town. 4) Natalie traces license plate to Teddy. 5) Leonard tricks Teddy into going to factory (turned out to be the same place he killed Jimmy, which Natalie didn't know when she suggested the place -- Leonard's truck was still there) 6) Leonard kills Teddy, giving himself the belief that he killed his wife's killer (again).

The end of Leonard's story in the movie is shooting Teddy, having provided himself with "facts" to make himself belief that Teddy was the John G. that killed his wife. The scenes in black and white are told in forward order, starting with him in a motel, preparing to shave his leg to make space for the new tattoo with Teddy's license plate. The last sequence in the movie is the actual beginning of the movie story, starting with him speaking to Teddy, who was a cop, who told the truth about Leonard's past. Teddy was using Leonard's condition to use him as to kill a drug dealer to steal $200,000. Leonard killed Jimmy Gants after Teddy told him that Jimmy Gants was the John G. he believed killed his wife. Teddy admitted he had lied and manipulated Leonard, and Leonard had a pen, so Leonard wrote down a fact that would point to Teddy being the man he should kill.
