As Lord Commander Jon had no choice but to execute Janos. Had he went about this in a different way such as asking to speak to him alone, ask respectfully or anything but bc he disrespected Jon in the worst way in front of everyone he had to do this or no one would respect him and he wouldn't be a successful leader. His father or any other lord in Westeros would have done the same.
