This movie is a substandard rip-off of Stand By Me mixed with Field of Dreams. Stand By Me was in the same time period and had the kid who was being ignored by his father, with a kid who stole something from his father, and the legendary feared dog behind the fence who turned out to be not so fearsome, and then the end with the character disappearing as the narrator described what happened to him later in life. Field of Dreams had the baseball theme, and had James Earl Jones and a magical appearance by a famous early 20th century baseball player.

Film cameras aren't Black and White or Color. It's the film. Maybe Larry's family just liked B&W pictures. Color film has been common since the late 60s/early 70s.

A "sandlot" is a bare piece of land in a neighborhood that is more dry, sandy dirt than grass, used unofficially by kids for whatever they need space to play -- usually sports. A "playground" is usually an official space with equipment like swings and slides and climbing equipment provided by the city for kids and families to play, often next to a park with space for general recreation. Technically, I wouldn't call the space in the movie a sandlot. It seemd more an overgrown baseball field with the backstop. I couldn't figure why they didn't put up a higher barrier where the fence between the field and the Beast's yard were if they could build a backstop...

It’s always funny watching anyone who isn’t American watch baseball. Was Larry afraid because he didn’t want to watch the movie? A few other baseball movies that are very good Field Of Dreams, Major League and Bull Durham. I think you have to grow up here and have baseball passed down to you, like European football to really enjoy it, it’s tradition.
