That’s really cool, I didn’t know that the Cassian Andor show was still going to happen. I just looked it up, and TONY GILROY is the Executive Producer and head Writer! For anyone who was living under a rock or something between the years 2007-2008, Tony Gilroy made his Directorial debut with one of the BEST FILMS OF THE 21st Century: “Michael Clayton.” So if Gilroy is the one in charge of the Andor series, I *really* hope Disney doesn’t interfere with his writing or production in any way because, well, the whole thing I just said about how he directed “Michael Clayton.” Sorry to diverge from the Star Wars discussion, but I think it’s very likely that a lot of Star Wars fans – whether they are excited for the Andor series or just cautiously optimistic – have never seen or heard of the film, “Michael Clayton,” which is why I’m *strongly* encouraging anyone reading this who hasn’t seen it to go check it out. The cast is absolutely stacked; you have the best performance of George Clooney’s career where he plays a lawyer but not the kind people have ever seen before, (no courtroom drama in this story – you get one or two small deposition scenes kinda like in The Social Network but those are more or less subplots). Tilda Swinton is an aspiring lawyer who has is given the opportunity she’s been waiting for her entire life to take over a multi-billion dollar class action lawsuit. Tom Wilkinson is yet another A-lister that knocks it out of the park as the head of the largest corporate firm in the country, (and one of the most powerful in the world), and his character suffers a mental breakdown just a few days before the law firm is about to settle a legal battle that’s been going on for YEARS and would expose a company (a very corrupt & insanely evil one that’s clearly meant to be a sort of reference to companies like DuPont etc). When Wilkinson’s character suffers a manic episode that snowballs into his desire for a clean conscience, Tilda Swinton is promoted to finish the job he’s just spent the last eight years working on. Meanwhile, Michael Clayton, (Clooney), is an off-the-books “Corporate Fixer” that makes “problems go away” if you know what I mean. So naturally, he is hired to deal with Wilkinson’s character but there’s a problem...not only do they know each other, they go way back and Wilkinson’s “mania” begins to crystallize as more than madness. THERE ARE SO MANY MOVING PIECES and trust me I’ve not spoiled a single thing despite how much I’ve said. This movie is incredible dense with all sorts of hard-boiled noir, crime, and thriller genre elements blended together with one of the most iconic endings I’ve ever seen. Seriously folks, Galen Erso would want you to watch Michael Clayton. So what are you waiting for? Cheers.
