Game of Thrones 8x6

Comments

Just finished watching your reaction to the series. I want to point out that I agree with Andrew Clifton on this one. I know we are in the minority here, but at every point of the show when Dany would try and get aggressive, her advisors would do a good job of talking her down. For example: When she got back from being captured by the Dothraki, and all her ships had been burned, she wanted to immediately go to the other cities and burn them all down. But Tyrion and others talked her out of it and instead, she just burned a couple of ships and had Grey Worm kill a couple of masters. After she lost two dragons and her best friend, she finally snapped and wouldn't listen to reason from anyone in the final season. Everything built up to that moment and for those of who were actually paying attention, noticed it. Could her snapping have been more drawn out at the end? Sure. I agree that it seemed a little rushed in the final season. But it doesn't change the fact that there were numerous clues during the show that lead to the conclusion that Dany would snap at the end. "If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention." - Ramsey Bolton Anyway, I enjoyed watching the reaction with you. It was a lot of fun.

I think Danny has been losing it slowly the whole time. Let's see why 1. Her family is killed amd she is sent into exile as a child with her psycho bro. 2. She is sold to savages to be brutally raped. 3. She falls in love with the savage she married and is about to have his baby but him and the child die. 4. Her best Dothraki freind betrays her. 5. People trying to assassinate her. 6. All the crap she had to witness in slavers bay and having to deal with the masters. 7. Jorah betrayed her 8. She gets to Westrros and has no one. 9. She goes north and saves the day but no one cares and she is treated the same as before. 10. She finds out the man she loves is her nephew who is the rightful king 11. Nephew doesnt want her anymore. 12. She lost 2 of the only 3 people she trusts, 1 beheaded and one died protecting her from the dead. 13. Varys betrayed her. 14. Tyrion keeps fucking up. There is obviously more to it than this but this is the simplified version. I loved Arya and Sansas ending. I didnt mind Bran being king. I hated Jons ending the most. His whole story about being a Targaryen and all the buildup of it added up to nothing. Still my favorite show of all time though. I also agree there were many mistakes in season 7 ie Eurons ships and the beyond the wall mess with the runner/raven/dragon relay race lol. I also dont get in season 7 and 8 how Danny keeps forgetting about the Iron fleet. First they fuck up Yara, then her ships at casterly rock, then they kill her dragon. Thanks for the reactions guys. Yall are the best. Also forgot to mention, they should have taken care of the iron throne business first and ended things with the Night King. The entire series built up things with the white walkers and then they end it half way through the last season? It didnt follow the proper buildup / climax model. It was hard to get excited after episode 3. I also agree that Bran should have has a. Better role to play in the battle with the dead.

It really wasn't bad writing for a normal show. This was just a 2 steps back for the writing for this show. It worked to flush everything out b/c they wanted to be done after season 6. It's really not on them. Martin wanted flushed out seasons so they compromised.

John James

I never understood why people include season 6 in this. It included “The Door”, “Battle of the Bastards”, and “The Winds of Winter”. Those 3 episodes alone probably make it the best season ever.

Nick Squirt

I like to just pretend that season 8 does not exist. It really is to bad, Game Of Thrones are probably one of the greatest shows ever made and they ruined it in only 1 season.

Aldous Orwell

I agree. It was a season 8 problem, not a Dany character problem overall. I was saying this was gonna happen before that season even started, and I must admit I was cheering during The Bells. I had always hoped Dany would be a Darth Vader. Because they've been alluding to it the entire time. The end of her descent into madness was done a disservice because of the short season lengths. But it was still awesome, imo, and The Bells is one of my favorite episodes.

Surprisingly, I love the idea to have Bran as king, but I think his character has been rushed at the end, it would have been most enjoyable if there was scene were he use his knowledge of the past to give wise advices for example. Here, his knowledge of the past is just a way to allow the creator to explain Jon's parents and the story of Hodor.

Morbeth

Totally aggreed ! Even if for me, the show has a loss of quality from the season 5 to 8 and the season 8 is clearly rushed with many mistakes, Daenerys is clearly someone dangerous without advisors and even with advisors she crucify people, burn prisoners alive, has a very high opinion of herself, etc...

Morbeth

They didn’t do a great job sealing the deal on her overall character arc, but the signs have been there throughout the whole series. A major recurring theme in the story is incest and how children of incest can end up disproportionately cruel/mad. This was shown in both the case of the Lannisters and quite explicitly with the Targaryens (the “Mad King”). The Mad King’s attempt to burn the city is a foreshadowing of her fate. As is the destroyed throne room in her visions. While she tends to come to her senses on most issues (although not all), she is constantly being pulled back by her advisors from overreacting or being overly cruel. This becomes a constant theme in her story pretty much from the point that she travels to Meereen. It’s easy to get caught up in support for Danny and overlook these things; she’s a protagonist that’s fun to cheer on. And it’s true that her arc in the last couple of seasons was handled clumsily, so I get people being a bit confused about what seems like a sudden shift in motivation(s). But, in terms of her general disposition, it’s also not something that completely just came out of nowhere either. Much of the context was there. You just have to reflect on it a bit.
