Alcohol was never been a good choice because what you will gets only loose of minds with more internal monologue or thoughts you cannot be sure to handle. which most case can lead from addiction into an accidents. nowadays beside financial are getting tight you dont need to start it especially if you are been smoker such myself, old habit hard to fix however grateful this had been quite 4 years since my last cup & bottle, I'm 29y/o eventho some may says 'prime-time' but that when you have to be careful as time passing you will to receive pains in your body & stressful night which I started to gets a year ago. now I'm just sticking with Kratom only which surprisingly does helps me reduce in both mental & physically. For smoking i think 2021 will be a good year to really focus stopping that. *Fingerscrossing

If you want to know about racial inequality, read about the Rape of Nanking.

A little ironic about “racial equality” when talking about the Japanese, who butchered those who they deemed inferior racially...

They had training. Not quite as much as the Airborne did, but it was still extensive. The Marines unfortunately had much older and less quantities of equipment. They were fighting with World War 1 era weaponry in most cases.
Also, the battle at night with the ships, was called the Battle of Savo Island. It was the worst defeat in US Navy history. The Japanese were excellent at night-time combat with their Navy. They came down on our ships and quickly destroyed a great deal of ships. Our naval commanders were very inexperienced and at this point, the command structure was split between US and Australian Navy Admirals. The communication and planning was not good enough for modern day fighting and we suffered greatly for it. The Marines were trapped alone on Guadalcanal after the Navy was forced to retreat. Many of the Marines felt hard done by the Navy guys, but by the end of the campaign, the US Navy had suffered 5 times more casualties than the Marines... the Japanese really gave it to us there.
As for the "Japs/Yellow" talk, America has always had a problem with racial equality, and it was extremely amplified at this time against the Japanese because they had attacked Pearl Harbor without warning and while their diplomats in Washington DC were still talking about peace. So most Americans were very disgusted with the Japanese people and their military especially for doing something so sneaky and dishonorable.

Great reaction, guys. The Pacific was a much more brutal campaign because of the jungle and the ferocity of the Japanese. Those dead Marines they found in the jungle were part of a patrol. The Japanese tortured and mutilated them. They cut off their genitals and stuffed them in their mouths. They cut off some of their heads too. After seeing that, the Marines became enraged and fought with brutality too.
The Japanese did not sign the Geneva Convention so they fought with no regard for life. The jungle heat was over 100 degrees F. All kinds of stinging and biting insects, scorpions, poisonous snakes, huge lizards, and crocodiles. The stench of the dead bodies was terrible. In Leckie’s memoir, Helmet for My Pillow, he wrote that they were swimming in the river to cool off and later he saw a V shape in the water, then heard crunching sounds. It was crocodiles eating the dead Japanese.
