It’s important to know that the Show doesn’t portray everything accurately. They often made up things for drama. In real life Legasov never attended the trial. Legasov never yelled at Gorbachev. Dyatlov never blamed Akimov or Toptunov for the accident. He was upset and bothered by their deaths; he considered them innocent. He wrote a letter to Leonid Toptunov’s mother, saying, “I fully sympathize with you and grieve with you. There is nothing more unbearable than losing one’s child.” Legasov wasn’t actually an expert on RBMK reactors. He was an expert on nuclear physics. Not everyone who was on the Bridge of Death died. People survived. The divers were not volunteers. They were simply told to go. There was no clapping when they came out. No one was threatened with being shot or being thrown out of a helicopter. According to my research, summary executions weren’t very common in the Soviet Union after Stalin’s death. Probably my favorite thing that the show got wrong was that “radiation is like a bullet”. Radiation isn't like a bullet. If it were, we'd all be dead since we're constantly being shot by radiation bullets from cosmic rays that strike the Earth from outer space. Some of the people living at higher elevations, who are exposed to the most bullets, like residents of Colorado, actually live longer. I think it’s funny how wrong they got that part. The show was good. That reminded me of an observation I made when watching Gorky Park, an old movie from the 80’s. The curtains in people’s homes were the same pattern but just a different color. That was a good movie.

I wish you would talk about life under that system- maybe do a special video plus question and answer livestream? I was in college in the US when Chernobyl happened and all I remember was it was reputed to be worse than the Soviet government and media was reporting.

I have seen other reactions to this show, but only from young people in the UK or US who didn't know much about what happened. I'm glad you have given us your perspective on this important series.
